Can I put my vgt solenoid on a switch? If so how can I go about doing it? I doesnt really matter if it hurts the truck im not worried about that. I'm gonna be a quitter eventually. TIA
its easy, get a toggle switch and mount it somwhere in the cab, splice the wires from the switch into the wires going to the solenoid. just make sure you have the right wires connected. your done.
you should plan some time in the future to take your turbo apart and clean all the soot that your going to create out of it. also make sure you watch your EGTs
just read in the other thread you already unplugged it to try it....you know that harness you unplugged? see those 2 wires coming out of it?? pick one, cut it, put a butt connector on both ends, run each wire into the cab and on a switch...when the switch is on, you have a complete circuit, turbo works as should, switched off, breaks the connection like you unplugged it...perdy simple, bout a 15 min job or so...
Sounds like you put one wire on a switch and leave it on, then when the VGT is where you want it you turn the switch off and it can't change positions. Thats what I got out of it anyway.
Is there a diagram or something i could read to tell me what wire to cut and where the solenoid is? Sorry but im used to my cummins. Iz not real smart wit the newfangled 6 ohhh.
Here's a question...what do you want the switch to do?
If you use a switch to break a wire and disable the solenoid, the vanes default to OPEN and the truck will be a slug.
If you are wanting to use a switch to close the vanes, you risk overspeeding the turbo and driving backpressure through the roof depending on when and how you use it.
There is a thread on another site where people did this and it made less smoke. If the PCM doesn't see some boost, I believe it's holding fuel back. I believe that this logic is used to prevent "tip in" smoke for emissions reasons.
in a lot of tunes, it wont smoke a lot until it gets some kind of boost. Now it is possible to not limit fuel on boost and itll get real smokey then..but that actualyl makes the turbo spool slower. Bringin in the fuel under a haze of smoke pulls harder usualy than just all out fuel.
I dont like loads of smoke either but sometimes I just like to roll smoke. I'd rather be really fast with minimal smoke that be slow and smokey. From what you guys say im gonna say screw doing this and just keep it the way it is
