As was said: the port by the oil filter is 1/8 npt (pipe thread).
The one on top of the HPOP reservoir is an SAE ORB (o-ring boss) thread, either a -3 or -4 size (pretty sure it's -4).
Also, the port by the filter is right off the pump, before cooling or filter, so it's naturally always going to give a higher reading (no restriction loss through the filter & cooler). The HPOP res location is probably more representative of the actual pressure in the engine, IMO.
1/8" NPT if you go off the oil filter adapter, this is a better place to pull oil galley pressure from as the HPOP reservoir will sometimes show lower than actual pressure due to the HPOP drawing more than is fed, needle shake is also annoying when using that port.
There is not a "best" location. It simply depends on what you want. If you want a higher, steady reading, use the ports down by the filter. If want a lower (and IMO, a "truer") pressure reading, use the one up on top. There is no "good" or "bad", just different based on where it is, and what's easiest for you. It's all the same oil...
I want to see the pressure at the main/rod bearings.
If there is no oil pressure up top, the injectors won't fire.
I used the rear most port on the block. 50 psi cruising down the road at 1950 rpm.
