I have a whole list of stuff to do on the EX while I am off for a few weeks, one of which is the rear vent window not opening. One side does the other does not... Anyone?
Also, the rear hatch lock is no locking and unlocking with the doors. It will unlock 99% of the time, but will not lock at all. I am going to take it apart and clean it good, and hope I dont need parts first. Again, Anyone else?
probably have to put a little pressure on the stuck one while the switch is activated...then some silicone spray to keep it loose once it's opened..
i had the same problem with the rear hatch lock...it wouldn't lock with the switches or the key..i remember taking all the trim off and cleaning everything up...there was alot of dust in there...there was also a little rod that needed adjusting to get the lock to work right..once you have it opened up, you'll see how it goes..use the key to watch the mechanism work...not a big deal...mine's been working fine for over a year now...
I'm not sure if this is the problem, but every Ford that I've had, 97 Expedition and 01 F250, the door locks went out. I would venture to say that's the culprit if it is a locked/unlocked problem. I forgot where I found out how to fix it, but it's on a forum somewhere.
tin foil mod is only for the door locks...the rear hatch lock system is slightly different...
all i remember from mine is that the problem was mechanical, not electrical...i never took the mechanism out...just kinda worked the plate that the motor is mounted to and the linkage, and my lock works fine..
No it's not different...did the tin foil mod on mine and works like a charm. Take out the actuators, drill out the plastic rivits, remove the cover, wrap tin foil around the small rectangle resistor (or whatever it's called) and slid it back in; bolt the case back together and you're good to go. It's a stupid, easy fix for ZERO dollars.
We've replaced all the door lock actuators in my Excursion, except for the back doors. And my back window won't unlock or lock with the key, but will with the lock button. Of course, now my driver's side door is sometimes locking and sometimes not.
Not too mention my Viper AutoStart/Locks remote stopped working. I got a new one, but need to dial it in with my truck before it will work.
The locking system in Super Dutys and Excursions are all jacked up. The locks are about the only thing I really, really hate on my truck.
Good luck with yours Joe. Post up what all you did to get everything working when you are all done.
"I dug up some of my notes when I did this a few years ago:
"For the rear cargo lift gate actuator replacement, remove the soft plastic screw covers near the ends of the inside liftgate handle. Then remove 2 T-30 Torx headed screws holding the rear lift gate handle. Next, follow this procedure to pry off the hard plastic cover that spans the base of the lift gate window:
"On each end of the cover there is a flat headed plastic push pin that goes into the upper cover. There is one pin on each vertical edge of the liftgate. Pry these up a little with a flat bladed screwdriver, and then use a side cutters, NOT TO CUT THEM OFF, but to slide under the head with the edges of the side cutter or *****, and just before you would start to cut the pin, push (not squeeze) the handles down to pry the head away from the surface. The plastic cover can be pried off by starting on one end of the lift gate.
"Peel back sheathing at the center area, to gain access and use a screw driver to lift the thin black tab on the actuator to release it. Disconnect the wiring connector. Install new actuator, reconnect wire connector, make sure the small shaft protruding from the actuator swivel arm is correctly landed into the lock assembly or else the unit will not function properly. Test with the remote control, close up sheathing, put hard plastic cover back on, reinstall lift gate handle and plastic screw covers.
"Good luck, and get to work!
