Re: 6.7 pros/cons

I am a ford diesel tech and so far they have really been great. some check engine lights and so forth but nothing major. there are so many emissions components on these things, you are bound to have a few check engine lights from time to time. I assume it is the same for the cummins and duramax. we have seen our share of the exhaust valve issues in the cab and chassis but that is a whole other subject. the performance is outstanding. be prepared, it runs and drives very differently from the previous for diesels. good luck and enjoy.

Re: 6.7 pros/cons

The biggest issue has been that the HPFP has failed a few times, costing about $10k to fix.

But you could also win the Megabucks with about the same odds.

Re: 6.7 pros/cons

If you buy one, plan on grinning alot and saying "man, I love this truck."

Pros: Comfortable interior, roomy, very quite, pulls my 5er(14.5K) no trouble, tranny smooth shifts, like the grade braking, electronics package is second to none, integrated trailer brake is vey smooth, man step on tailgate helps this old man out, like the DEF fill by fuel fill so you are not reaching over engine compartment, tons of storage bins on inside.

Cons: I've got a payment again, wished the rear seat laid down flat instead of folding up(dog does too), figuring out the second to none electronics package.

Re: 6.7 pros/cons

I own a 2011 F35o Lariat with the Powerstroke/Torqueshift combo. As of now I have 58000 miles on it. The engine is great, no problems yet. The transmission however is another story. Last Summer my truck spent five weeks in the shop while they threw parts at it trying to fix it from shifting into neutral in between 2nd and 3rd gears. New valve bodies, solenoids, torque convertor and numerous reprogramming. After I had enough of Ford telling them to throw parts at it, I contacted Ford directly in Dearborn. I was on the verge of the lemon law so they decided to send a field engineer out to look at my truck. He managed to reprogram the truck, with a program that the service department had no idea existed and still don't. with that said I love the truck except the transmission. I owned three Duramax /Allison combos' before this and went to Ford to give them an honest effort and the price was right. I paid $46,648 for my F350 that retailed for $58,890. GM couldn't come close to that price for a comparable truck. As of late the transmission started to act up again. I personally wouldn't buy another one until they fix the transmission problems. I will be going back to GM in 2015

I don't think your problems are anything more than an isolated case

My wife's brand new Tahoe was right back at the dealership within 1,500 miles with transmission trouble. They tore it apart, found the defective part, and now the truck has 25K trouble free miles. It really pissed me off that a new truck was built with a bad part, but I had the right guy who knew what he was doing, and he identified and fixed it.

Blame your problems on the morons diagnosing and "fixing" your transmission. I think you just ran in to the wrong "tech" at a pooly run dealership.

Re: 6.7 pros/cons

Ask poormanscat about his transmission problems. If I blame the morons diagnosing it than Ford itself is to blame. Their tech line diagnosed the problem over the internet and on the phone and told the dealership what to do and what parts to replace. Check some of the other posts about transmission problems with the superduty. George C, you are comparing a half ton transmission with a one ton transmission. My GM HD trucks all had the Allison transmission. my 01' had 156000 mi., my 04' had 148000 mi. and my 08' had 135000 mi. when I traded them in. The only problem I had was injectors in my 01'.

No arguement from me about moronic techs. I don't trust a ford or GM tech to change my oil. My point was that $hit happens and bad parts get installed in new trucks. I had a good tech which is a rarity, you had the usual run of the mill moron, along with a field tech who should have just given you a new tranny to make things right, That doesn't mean that the whole lot of ford transmissions are bad. What is bad is unfortunately is your luck with this deal,
