Hey guys, I need a little help. My truck is having a hard time steering wise...It doesnt't return to center. If I go into a curve I can take my hands off the wheel and it will stay right with the turn. I am always making corrections while driving straight as well. Now, this has been an issue since I purchased the truck,
I have replaced:
-Tires
-ball joints
-hubs
-Alignment
A friend of mine is having this same issue. Will adjusting the gear box at the allen head screw solve this or does the gear box need to be replaced? I also noticed that the seal around the output shaft is leaking.
When you installed the ball joints did you just ram the top ball joint down on the alignment spacer????? If you did you are causing the ball joint to bind and possibly damaged your new ball joints.
Here is a little reading for you. Moog Problem Solver Here are the highlights.
It is important that the following torque
procedures be followed:
Tighten the LOWER ball joint nut to 59 Nm (44
ft. lbs.) DO NOT USE AN IMPACT WRENCH. An
impact wrench can spin the stud at high speed
and cause premature failure. Tighten the UPPER ball joint nut to 94 Nm
(69 ft. lbs.) DO NOT USE AN IMPACT WRENCH.
An impact wrench can spin the stud at high speed
and cause premature failure. Tighten the LOWER ball joint nut to 204 Nm
(150 ft. lbs.). DO NOT USE AN IMPACT
WRENCH. An impact wrench can spin the stud at
high speed and cause premature failure
