Heard that they make a difference in mileage, but just wanting to see if anybody had actual experience with bed covers on the big diesels. Anybody got any experience with them?
I had a Access Lorado Tonneau cover on my truck and it was more of a pain in the ass then it was worth so I took it off seen no mileage difference had it on my truck for 2 years
Cover your stuff to keep it dry sure. Mileage gain, nothing. Had a friend do a study in a wind tunnel with scaled trucks. No gate is worse than a tail gate. Roof lights are the worst thing you could do. 1/2 a tonneau cover for the back 1/2 of the bed was best, with open bed 2nd best, full tonuea 3rd.
My dad has had one on his 2001 for 10 years. Have not seen a mileage difference. He has the pace-edwards roll top tonneau. It is nice because we can cover stuff in the winter, and roll it up if we need to haul something in the bed.
when I didn't have 2 nickles I used to use aluminum channel and oil based paintet black OSB to keep my stuff from getting jacked and wet ,, that was a pain
Don't buy a bed cover for the mileage increase. Only buy it for the practicality. The added weight I'm sure decreases any gains in mpg.
