So I have a 96 F250 Regular cab, longbed Powerstroke 4x4 w/ Dana 60 in it. I just got a 95 F350 4door, longbed 2wd because I found out we are having another baby (our 2nd) and need a more family friendly truck. Anyway I'm going to put my Brand new tranny, and Dana 60 from the F250 into my F350. What I'm wondering is what other solid axle swaps with fit in my F250 so it can still be 4x4 when I go to sell it?
Well, and don't quote me on it, possibly try a 78-79 f250 Dana 44? Aside from that, you are probably going to end up searching for another 60 from as far as i can remember
The '78-'79 D44 bolts right in. Used to be pretty easy to find, not sure anymore. They were high pinion and had the same lug pattern, the spring pads were narrower, seems they were about 3" narrower if I remember right. Put one under an '81 F250 15 years ago cuz I was too cheap to buy a D60 but hated the IFS D50. Cost me $100, ran everything from 35" to 40" tires on it and it lived, spent the last 10 years as a mudder/trail/plow truck. Just sold the thing a year ago so I could work on my next project.
Use the Dana 60 but you will need to use an rsk or some other way to mount the front shackles for the front leaf springs.
Just doesn't make sense buying a different axle when you have 98% of the parts to convert the 2wd to 4wd.
