I have a 2003 f250 with a clunk/ rattle noise coming from the front driver side area when i hit bumps. Within the past year I have replace the trac bar, all tie rod ends, leaf spring bushings, sway bars and bushings on axle, steering box, shocks, pass side ball joints and installed dual steering stabilizer. The driver side ball joints check out fine as well as both wheel bearings. As far as I can tell I have checked everything but its driving me insane when going down the high way or even pulling out of the drive way I hit a bump and i hear a clunk. My only thoughts would be where the shackle on the front leaf springs mounts to the bushing that bolts to the frame( i didnt replace that one as it seemed ok) Any input would be greatly appreicated. It also has a 2" rough country level kit (the add a leaf style) a part of me thinks it could be that too because the ends just sit metal to metal with no bushing between the leafs
I think my truck makes the same exact noise, doesnt matter if driver or passenger.side.hits a bump, its a metal clunking Sound, but its a light clunking, i know its because my leaf springs are slapping each other
Are your ubolts properly torqued and thread locked. I had a similar noise and my nuts had backed off. - Also, U bolts shouldn't be reused. Once you take them off you need another set , according to the Ford service manual.
I have something similar on my 99-f350-7.3. Whenever I hit the brakes about a second later you hear a THUMP, it's not super loud and it doesn't sound horrible, but it is very annoying. You hit the brakes about a second or 2 later you hear a thump, and thats about it.
I think my shock bushings are okay. But now that you bring it up my front sway bar bushings are SHOT, they are worn out like hell, I wonder if that is it. I will be replacing them with a polyeurethane kit shortly.
My truck made clunks since I bought it. I replaced EVERY SINGLE suspension piece in the truck. I mean everything. it still clunked. I found out that my shock bushings were shot. I threw some washers in them and tightened them down a good bit more and it quieted it up/bought me some more time. Also my sway bar end links were shot. I never went back and checked them since they had about 15K miles on them and I just replaced them a week or so back and it's quiet finally for once!
Ive replaced swaybar bushings, swaybar end links, shocks, steering box, pitman arm, pass side ball joints, TRE at pitman arm and the one that connects to the main tie rod, leaf spring bushings and the track bar. Still have the clunk. not real sure which direction to go now.It sounds like its coming from the driver side anytime I hit a bump. Cant seem to figure this one out yet
See how much movement you have in your front axle shafts. Could be bouncing around in the axle tube. If you had your bearings go bad or someone didn't replace the inner thrust washer then it can move a lot.
Ended up messing with it yesterday afternoon and it was the driver side sway bar end link. I replaced them in dec of 2011 and they went bad already. Thats what I get for buying quality autozone parts i guess. Thanks for the help guys!
I just bought an 03 F 250 diesel and rattles as I Drive down the road, the sway bar Links are new. I'm going to check the bushings on the sway bar and the shocks
