2001 7.3 problems

Ive got a 01 7.3 with around 290,000 miles. The other day the power wire to the alternator got burned into and I replaced it. Every since then it's had a real rough idle, which smooths out while driving until overdrive then it goes to vibrating real bad, it shows no oil pressure at all and oil temp light stays on. It will still crank up and drive so it's gettin oil pressure to
The hpop otherwise injectors wouldn't fire and it wouldn't crank. My programmer pulls up a po603 code which says PCM failure and and throwing a p1211 code but no SES light comes on. Any suggestions to what my problem is? And I'm gettin alot of blow by from wastegate

Re: 2001 7.3 problems

Sounds like when the alt wire burned in two it fried some other parts of the electrical system or at least some of the sensors/sending units. And the worst part with the pcm failure code might not be inexpensive and easily replaceable wires or sensor/sending units but might be the pcm got fried just like any other computer or electrical system they dont like to be shorted out. I would start with checking over the entire wiring harness with a fine tooth comb and replace the oil pressure sending unit/sensor since neither one will cost very much then its on to the pcm

Oil pressure sending unit should be right on top of the hpop reservoir unless they moved it between obs and super duty i domt remember if it is there last time i looked at a super duty

Re: 2001 7.3 problems

I searched some YouTube videos las night and it's showing one on top of the hpop and a small wire/probe type deal on top of where the oil filter screws on. Maybe this fixes my problems

Re: 2001 7.3 problems

Oh and to add to this post, right after this happened I checked all fluids, oil was rather thin so I did an oil and filter change hoping that it may would change the way it was running since it has hydraulic injectors but it changed nothing. Is it possible for the hpop to loose prime cause the truck to run as if it has a dead cylinder or misfiring?

Re: 2001 7.3 problems

Yes the oil pressure is on hpop reservoir and the oil temp is on the oil filter/oil cooler header. As for hpop losing prime i dooubt that is your problem, that would cause an extended crank or hard start issue. But the rough idle and bad vibration could be one of the injector harnesses. Check the wiring harness going into the valve covers if that is ok pull the valve covers and check the injector/glow plug harnesses they could have a short somewhere causing this.

Re: 2001 7.3 problems

Just changed out the oil sending unit. Still running rough and still showing oil temp light and no oil pressure. Unplugged the harnesses on top of the valve covers one at a time and try both changed the way the truck was running. Idk, what would be next on the list?

Re: 2001 7.3 problems

As much as i hate to say it sounds like it might have fried the pcm check the entire engine wiring harness for any chaffed or burnt wires and then i would try to find someone with the same pcm code to swap and see if that fixes it before you buy one and try swapping the idm to just to rules these things out before you shell out the cash for.non returnable parts
