hey all i have a 2003 ford excursion 4x4. 7.3 the steering and front end was trashed and all needed to be replaced so i though why not upgrade to 2005-07 front and rear axles and 2006 steering box. this was my project for past 5 months. i have a pure performance 6 inch 4 link lift kit front, with 2006 steering components and box. i had to switch one power steering hose line other fit. i ordered pmf 08 leaf conversion brackets which were installed here in az by total auto pros cause i had them welded in. i have 2008 oem leafs with a carli mini pack.
I'm still waiting on the tapered blocks for the pinion angle to be corrected thats why drive shaft is straight. this is how it sits and looks after everything is complete but the rear blocks i will have hight measurements once i get it hopefully tuesday or wednesday and then i can tell you how it rides compared to 4 inch lift i had on the old suspension
How much total lift do you think you got out of the Pure Perf kit? My 8" full traction conversion barely clears 38x15.50 on 20x10 BMF wheels (I think it's -24 offset). In fact it rubs at full lock on the inside wheel well liner (just clears the rear edge of the fender). I thought I might be able to run 40s also, but I think you need more like 10" of lift to get those under there. 20x12 would make it even more difficult. Let me know how the 08 springs ride in the back.
butcher your still on a 99.5-04 axle right? i switched to a 2006 axle which is three inches wider then your so ill have the extra turn radius to full lock where i won't rub I've been told. not sure yet till i get it back and test fit some 20.12 40'' rims and tires on there. and ill also be putting on bushwhacker cut out fender flares to open the wheel wells better i know no one likes them but i don't want a 10 inch lift well i might go bigger later but right now still got little ones i have to load up in there
Did you ever get your wheels and tires? I am on the factory front axle, but mine is an '05, so I already have the increased turning radius. If your axle is 3" wider I'm pretty positive you are going to still have rubbing issues. Mine rubs on the inner fender liner at the back of the front wheel-well. With 20x12 and 40" tire I'm thinking you are going to hit the fender itself. My passenger side tire also rubs a bit on the upper link arm (driver's side doesn't). You may not have that same problem with a wider axle. The cut-out flares may make it all work though.
Haven't got rims and tires yet need rear axle rotated and a cv drive shaft before I get tires and rims ya I been looki g at that also I believe I'll rub at full lock if not before.. How's yours ride and drive
Ride is fantastic compared to what it was. Really took the hard, jarring ride out of it. Just need to get my steering slop issue solved, and it should be just right.
I had to shim my rear leaves. Actually stole the shims off my Skyjacker springs and I don't have any driveline vibration. I think the fat end of the shim was roughly 3/8" if that helps at all.
i have the angled block and was told since the 08 leaf made it more of a angle on the leafs i need to get the perches cut and welded would be the best way so I'm going to go that route since i not going back to excursion springs and might next year lift it to a 10 inch not sure yet though so ill see if i need a cv 2 piece or not i heard long beds came with a 2 piece drive shaft is that true? ya i love the turning radius increase its a lot better on stopping and the ride is smooth not bouncy at all compared to the full leafs front and rear
The Super Duties come with a two piece driveshaft, but not sure if that is all of them, or just the long beds. I assume there would be a crossmember under an Ex to mount the carrier bearing, but not positive.
Yea there is just need to find a drive shaft now hopefully a junk yard will have one
