So my steering was getting very loose and I tightened the allen screw on top the steering box, went about a half turn then didnt hold the screw in place as I tightened the locking nut. The screw clamped all the way down as tight as it would go. Ive heard this is very bad and soon after I began to leak lots of power steering fluid from around the nut. Loosened the screw lots and stopped the leak with RTV gasket maker. My steering is tighter but now it whines and anything less than a half turn of the steering wheel it doesnt want to go back to center on its own. Honestly I think its worse than before, driving me nuts. Is there a rebuild kit I can get to have like-new steering or a heavier duty steering box and/or pump. What did I do and how can I make it better???
I run a Redhead Steering Gearbox. I replaced the pump while everything was open and out of the way. Did not locate anything better than stock at the time.
I was quoted $346 + $175 core. The Red-Head unit will perform much better than oem or anything you rebuild.
