Threw a leveling kit on my 04 SD a while back. Now when I load her she's sagging pretty bad in the back. Figured I'd just throw some airbags on to correct it under load. But then it crossed my mind that all the load would essentially be on the bags.
So, wouldn't putting bigger blocks in the back giving it rake unloaded and somewhat correcting the sag under load be more feasible ? And then throw on some bags to further correct it when I really load her down.
Dont be concerned about the whole load being on the bags. The leafs will essentially support the weight of the truck and the bags the load. Either way its not going to create problems.
The only other thing I would be concerned with is how you want the truck to sit. If you like it how it is now then just do the bags. If you would prefer the back to sit a little higher then put a taller block on it.
I initially did the leveling to get rid of the rake..... I like it sitting level. That's why I figured on doing bags. But anymore there is always a load of some sort on the truck so it ain't level anyhow.... I guess I will just save the $$ for blocks and just do bags ! That way I have more control.
Run 4 psi when not towing my 13K toyhauler. Ride is the same as before the bags. 70 psi when towing. Took out all the bounce & levels the truck with the TH hooked up. I suggest you buy the kit like I have Firestone, controls in the cab & comp in my toolbox. I can adj on the fly and make it ride how I want for diff rd conditions.
I swapped the 4" F350 OEM blocks for the 2" shorter F250 rear blocks to level the truck. Basicly a leveling kit but smarter because the lower rear end makes loading the bed easier.
I have the same problem. When I load the truck, it quickly looks like it is dragging butt. I plan on air bags to fix this.
Keeping the truck level with any load means your headlights will point correctly and your truck won't attract attention for being loaded and you have more capacity out back. It is easy to bottom out the suspension before hitting the GAWR.
I do worry about putting all that load on the bags at one point of the frame instead of spreading it out across the frame as the leaf springs do. Anybody ever bent or broken their frame at the bag mounts?
I did bags on the truck and i also removed 3 springs from the pack. Then put longer blocks for it the make up for the springs missing. Truck rides alot smoother, and it can carry the weight just as good. Going from about 3-5 psi to 100 psi it raises the back of the truck about 6 inches while empty. So it can sag alot and i can just fill it up and make it sit right again.
