The time has come for me to make yet another informative and slightly biased post about the TORQ 2.1. Before we get this thread rolling, please note that I have no affiliation to Innovative Diesel whatsoever. While my threads may come across as biased, it's only because the products deserve being written about and the guys at IDP deserve the credit. At the end of the day, I pay for each and every product that goes onto my truck, just like everyone else.
The TORQ 2.1 is a very nice 'add-on' to any 6.7 PSD. The ability to add power and pick up fuel mileage on the fly is excellent. Now, if you've read my other thread, you know that the original harness I had when I picked up the T2.1 didn't fit properly. Turns out IDP was sent the wrong harness from the manufacturer! I've had the new unit installed for a bit now and have spend some time tracking my mileage, my power, etc.
Simply put the, TORQ2.1 is a rail pressure box that can deliver up to 100hp and increase fuel mileage 1-2mpg. The installation is very simple and unit comes with instructions. It literally took me about 15 minutes to install everything. After installing it, you notice that the truck takes a little bit of time to adapt to the unit, that's completely normal. There will be a learning curve no matter which platform or tune you're running on your 6.7. The other part I'd like to note is that each truck will react differently to the addition of the TORQ 2.1 rail box. Hence the reason for the adjustment dial both on the box itself and the fueling adjustment knob (0-100%).
My initial impression is as follows...
• The truck shifts even better than when it was tuned on Xtreme Street (IDP tune).
• Large reduction in truncation between shifts makes for faster and crisper shifts.
• Fuel mileage went from 16.8mpg around town to just shy of 19mpg around town.
• Power is non-stop, literally. The truck will pull until the end of time.
Typical city mileage I'm seeing with my daily driving settings...
Typical highway mileage with the my daily driving settings...
Just after installing the box, I spoke to Eric and asked him the best way to tune the TORQ2.1 and he said that every truck will react differently and while he'd love to tell everyone there's an exact science for setting it up, there isn't. It's a bit of trial and error to get it dialed in properly. On my truck, I tried a few different settings and found that while position 0 on the box itself and the knob set to 100% gives me the most ridiculous power, it's simply not necessary for daily driving. For the best results, I've set the box to position 0 and the knob to 50%. It'll still smoke the tires all day, it's just better for my daily driving habits and my right foot.
Overall, my goal with the truck is safe & reliable power. Which, with the combination of the TORQ2.1 and the Innovative Diesel TORQ2/2.1 tune, I definitely have!
There are a few things to remember with the TORQ 2.1 rail box and they are...
• Each truck will react differently. Before you have a massive meltdown and get pissy online and bitch to the forum that your truck isn't functioning properly, dial in your TORQ 2.1 a bit. It's going to take time, but once you have it set up properly, you will truly love your investment!
• DO NOT RUN THE TORQ 2.1 with the IDP XTREME STREET TUNE! You will throw a P0088 code (high rail pressure) as the TORQ box will be fighting the tune for rail pressure control.
• Use the instructions! While everyone on here is a certified mechanic and knows most everything about their own trucks, follow the instructions.
While it's easy for IDP to post great things about their products, they're always going to look biased. I can honestly say that this is a great product and you will definitely get your money out of it. I wouldn't hesitate to put this on any 6.7 tuned or untuned. If you have any questions, please let me know!
