Service Engine Soon light on?

2001 Excursion all running good. Came on a while ago but did go right back off. Today it's back on and staying. I am due for an oil change but is that all the light means? Will it know I drained and changed the oil? How do I know what it is or can I get it to go back off ,

Batteries also I think have been getting old. Sat for a week and was not strong enough to get truck started in the 20* days we have had. Jumped with truck and fired right up. Driving now for another day batteries are fine.

Thanks

Re: Service Engine Soon light on?

don't remove it. Have it scanned so you will know what's wrong with the truck.

Re: Service Engine Soon light on?

yep could be anything form map sensor to a chaffed wire under the valve cover....you should invest in a scanner, mine has been a true money saver. instead of driving down to autozone ever time i get a light( and my ford seems to have a new sensor go out every other month) i just plug in my scanner and start troublshooting
