well i keep see all you guys posting all about 4x4 duallys. now im thinking about it. i have a 97 f350 CCLB rust free. rare for where im from. i have found a bed with a goose plate in it. rear-end, steal wheels, and front dually adapters all of a 88 2 wheel drive for $750. box is ok no rust that i could see. but im thinking of just taking the fenders off the puting them on mine. what do u guys think??
Ok, good deal. The fenders will take some work, but should be doable. If the bed you bought is a factory dually bed, look under it, it will give you an idea what needs to be done.
The dually box sides are completely different from the single wheel box sides. The dually box has reinforcements for the weight of the dually fenders. You would be better off pulling your box and either using the dually box you have at your disposal or finding one in good condition. If the adapters you have are for a 2wd truck they will only work on a 2wd truck. If they are the entire hub assembly for a 4wd they will not work on a 2wd. If your truck is 4wd then it is bolt on. be sure that the rear you are getting is for a dually pickup and not a cab n chassis configuration as the axle would be narrower than the pickup version.
Is your truck 4wd? If so then all you have to do is pull the hub off the spindle and replace it with the dually hub assembly. Good deal on the rear and box.
There are only a few configurations. 1 is the 2wd single rear wheel which is the hub and rotor as one machined piece, 2 is the 2wd dual rear wheel which is the hub and rotor as one machined piece, 3 is the 4wd single rear wheel in which the hub and rotor can be separated but only works on a single rear wheel truck, and finally 4 which is the 4wd dual rear wheel which has the deeper offset for the dually wheel and the hub and rotor can be separated as well. On a separate note the rotors for single rear wheel and dual rear wheel are the same exact part for the 4wd trucks.
i have also been thinking about building one also but my question is do you think it would be easyer to start with a 2wd dually and convert to 4x4 or start with a 4x4 single wheel and swap in a dually rear and dually bed.
thanks speeddemon tho all the info helps.like i said ill look at the parts tuesday. but i just found out that the rear-end is 4.10 and my truck is 3.55. the truck is 1988 do u know if i can use my gears and that housing and axles? there is a bigger ring gear in some duallys?
Both axles are going to be sterling 10.25 rears. Yes your pinion and ring assembly will work in the other rear but you will need to have the depth and mesh reset by a shop with the right tools. If you bring them the rear axles from both trucks they can swap the parts for you and the cost will be fairly priced.
i just got a donor truck $500. rolling 2wd frame, 7 steal wheels, and a box that will need i bit of work and paint, goose neck. now i need the front hub adapters.
