Alright fellas so here is the story. I have a 95 f-350 cclb that is awesone and i just love these body styles. But my biggest problem is a have a motor that has 400,000 miles on it and its starting to give me problems. So im thinking of swapping a Cummins into my ford. But i dont know all what parts i will need. I have done some research and know i need a donor truck. With that said my brother and i just picked up and old 95 reg. cab cummins for 500 bucks (which is a effin steal where i live). But i dont know what other parts i will need.
Things i already have
*95 F-350
*95 Cummins donor truck
*Ford Cummins Motor Mounts
*Gobs of tools and space
Now All i would like to know is what else are me and my buddy guuna have to do or get. I want to get as much info and all the parts before i get ot taking out the old 7.3 ANY INFO WILL BE TAKEN SERIOUS. THANKS IN ADVANCE:bowfast:
I used my existing engine harness, trimmed out all the junk I did not need. I used a ford oil pressure sender with a bushing into the cummins block, used my ford coolant sender with a bushing in the cummins block. You need 3 wires going to the fuel shutoff solenoid, one is a ground, one comes from the starter relay "pull" and the other is a power "hold" if you want a functioning tach, you will need a tach kit which adds two wires.
i am going to use the nv4500. My only problem is tracking down a transfer case for cheap. because were i come from people seem to think just because it says to or cummins its worth alot. i mean i can buy a new one for like a grand and guys are askin 850 or 900 for one with 200,xxx miles.
Just hit the junkyards a lot of stuff had cummins in it even some fords like the old f600 and l600 trucks had a 12 valve. The flat front end school buses had a cummins in the back some big rv used them too.
Well fellas i still haven got my project started yet. but hopefully in the next week or so i will get started tearin out the old powerstroke. Life has been real hectect this week. So as soon as i start the fummins project i will start postin pictures.
Good luck with this project. It took me a little over 3 years to finish mine but was well worth it.I have a one wire alternator that fits the cummins bracket if need one. This is one option or you can fab a bracket and use the Ford alt.I used the Autoworld dual motor mounts I found them on E-bay.I also used their alt and a/c bracket. You need a tach pick up kit also.Just let use know if you run into issues we probably have faced them already.
Well fellas i appreciated it. And the only reason in vereing away from the trusty old powerstroke. Is it tired of the cold bloodedness. If i dont make sure its not plugged in every night theres no drivin her to work the that day. An i bought a complete 96 for 500 bucks. So tomorrow i start disassembly
Well still no pic's but i have the tranfer case and tranny out already. Just waitin til this weekend to pull the motor. Also i really appreciate the supprot from fellow mebers alot of my friends are hating on me. They say if you want a cummins buy a dodge and if you want a ford then buy it. But i say FUC* that i want a sexy body style backed by a good motor. And if no one likes it and they want to complain then buy me a new powerstroke or give me the money to rebuild mine. Sorry for the rant.ointlaugh:
Some people don't understand building a car or truck just for you,I love the fords styling over the dodges and fords just rust on the bed sides dodges and gms rust on the cab corners and rockers.
Well gentlemen. I am just waiting on a tractor to pull out my motors. Then once i do that i am goin to completly re-seal and gasket for a leak free motor. I have some pics of the build its just my phone is being retarded and wont send them. Once it does ill post em. It hurt my heart to tear apart my old ford but i know its for a better cause. Im hoping by next weekend i can have it out re-sealed and i can start fabbin my mounts. Once again thanks for the support fellas.
While the engine is out, I would highly reccomend head studding it. My fire wall to head clearance is tight. I doubt I could remove the head in truck, let alone head stud it.
I would also do 60# valve springs while the head is off, and I don't know what pump mods you plan on doing, but now is forsure the time to do a 4GSK.
O yes sir all those are a must. Im doing everything legiate, i am very anxious to get it runnin and drive it but i want to make sure everything is done on it before i think about puttin it in my ford
