fuel sending unit -- ouch!

has anyone bought one lately? I was quoted $295 by my local dealer whos usually pretty decent... I may just live with no gauge reading on the front tank

Has anyone bought one better? what typically goes wrong with them? I'd plan to pull the bed to reach it and pulling the bed will be no simple task.

Re: fuel sending unit -- ouch!

Wire in the tank prolly broke off, happened to me. I ended up just having it soldered it back on.

Re: fuel sending unit -- ouch!

I had to replace mine on my 05 F250. Ran me $330 and that was the best price anywhere. However, based on your 94 F250 Partstrain is $175, Orielly Auto $160, and Rock Auto $105 to $120. I differ with the Countryboyrob....I would replace rather than repair, you already have the tank off, might as well save yourself the time of taking it back off if it reoccurs.

I didnt drop my tank.......

It's easier to wiggle the sending unit out then to drop a tank.

Re: fuel sending unit -- ouch!

If the auto stores are selling the motorcraft part, we'll do some checking around.

You can get the sender out of the front tank without dropping the tank? I havent studied it yet, but it looked tight..

Re: fuel sending unit -- ouch!

I think the front one can stay in place. The rear has to be dropped.

Correct, although after looking at it an ATV jack would work great for dropping the rear tank.

Re: fuel sending unit -- ouch!

Make sure to get a OEM gasket and lock ring for your sending unit. I went with an auto parts store version when I replaced my rear tank only to have it leak at the seal because it wasn't the same size as the OEM. Once I got the OEM gasket and lock ring from Ford, it sealed like a dream.
