Been off the board for a while. But need some opinions.
I have a
99 F350 6spd 4x4
6 position Chip from Matt Robinson with 120hp highest setting
Garret 38R Turbo
AFE Stage II intake
4" DP and Exhaust with a muffler
Im having to upgrade the clutch, stock clutch is just not holding anymore, and Ive been looking at the Valvair Organic/Organic 400HP / 900FT LB Torque Clutch.
Anyone have any experience with this clutch? Opinions please.
By the profile pic it looks like you tow. Guy I just bought mine off of said the organics aren't great for towing. He recommended ceramic/kevlar. It holds up better for towing. I have the 500 HP one and right now I'm not making anywhere near that but plan on it soon and I like it. Nice engagement too
When I bought my Clutch form Valair AND when I bought my clutch from South Bend, they BOTH recommend an ORGANIC clutch for TOWING.
So far I have about 5,000 on my Valair Organic Clutch in my 97 and about 2500 is towing. I have NOT ONE COMPLAINT.
The only reason I went with the SB clutch was to get their Kevlar Pilot bearing.
But after thinking about it, I would been ahead of the game by buying the Valair clutch and the BS pilot bearing and saving $150
I have been running a ValAir organic in my truck for about 13 months. Last weekend the throw out bearing they supplied failed. Pulled it, replaced with Ford brand piece and SB kevlar pilot bushing. Clutch is butter smooth, just like stock, couldn't be happier. With their parts, it was chattering, jumpy and hated to slip at all.
Cliffs, clutch has been great and had barely any wear in a year of light-moderate use. Supplied throw-out bearing and pilot bearing are garbage.
I had a bad grove on the input shaft from a pilot bearing issue before, so my friends trans shop cut me a brass bushing to fit and milled down the input shaft.
But finally the stock hp rated clutch is just not holding anymore. Atleast I didnt break it this time. Well see how this Valvair clutch hold up.
I had one for about 20k I haul quite a bit of hay in the summer, this time I got a south bend dd costly but I know what I'm getting, not impressed with the valair but to each his own
I was going to go with a valair mostly because of the reduced price, and the fact that many people had a lot of positive things to say about them. I ended up picking up a south bend DD street clutch for a good price.
Post up your opinion of the clutch when you get it in!
Well come to find out the transmission was also shot
So I ordered a reman trans for $2,000 with 2 year unlimited mile warranty, and also got a kevlar pilot bushing from southbend.
Waiting for everything to come in and I will let yall know how it goes.
