My truck started doing the missing second gear thing so I took it to the dealer. They called and said there was metal in the trans pan. I went down to inspect and found my trans in a pile on the bench. I talked with the tech and he showed me the new converter. It only had six studs on it where the old one had eight. He said the heavy welding on the plates for the studs was the problem. It warps the converter and the turbine rubs it. He has done six of them this month. Ford sent him a new flywheel and converter and all new gaskets for the trans. I hope to get it back on Monday. It been there over a week now. I hate the ranger loaner.
That many studs for the TC? Heck, most only have three don't they? I think my 4R100 did,,, and after BTS get's done, they'll hold all the HP and TORQUE these 6.7's can dish out...... seems like over kill to me.
Job 1 2011. Purchased it in Aug of 2010. 25500 miles.
I got the truck back today. Shifts great. I didnt realize how bad the trans was. Feels like it has much more power.
