Here are a few pics of my intake manafold. In some places there is about an inch of crap ranging from stuff like caked on charcol to tar. Deleting my egr will be my next mod. There is about a 1/4 inch built up in the egr its self.
I couldn't get all out. Just scrapped what I could out and wiped out where I could reach. It was bad as far as I could see with a flashlight but I couldn't get to it
I cleaned one for a buddy by soaking it mineral spirits then sprayed it out with carb clean. The parts washer we did it in was brand new and had about a 1/4" of muck in the bottom of it when we got done! Pull all sensors first though.....of course! Looked new when we got done. No more egr either.
WTF! Gotta love gov-ment regulations. So basically to appease the EPA we are stuck w/ lower mpg, gotta burn more fuel which puts more crap into the air, and the life of our vehicles is shortened and when the motor goes, all those parts get sent to the scrap yard.
Yeah EPA:doh:
I have 30k left on the factory warranty but I don't want it to go boom.
May have to do this in the near future, this build up of crap in the intake and egr can't be good for mpg or power.
the combo of soot from the egr and oil from the crank case vent makes one good mixture... Glad I have none of the above. After some miles without the egr and the CCV mod. My intake seems to be cleaning itself.
Well Ford does the sevice and offers it for trucks under warranty (but the service isn't covered ) and BG states it's all broken down and carbon soot is soft so short of pulling it all apart or just dealing with it it seems to be a viable solution ?
I have never seen a bad feed back just good " truck runs like new " ETC
However I have never done it myself and Had the same first impression as you just passing along what I have seen
I can see most of it being soft, but what about when a chunk comes out and falls into a cylinder. believe me, just because ford does it, doesn't mean its good for the truck. I have personal friends that are techs. they cringe about some of the things they have to do to satisfy ford. my intake is totally clean for the most part after about 7k with no egr and CCV modded.
Can't you just drizzle seafoam down the intake while the engine is running. Let it sit for 30 min or so then go run the piss out of the truck? Works on gassers. There is also one hell of a fog fest when you do it the first time.
WOW yours cleaned up in 7k!!! That is great news. My truck has 80k on it and i installed an egr delete, cold side pipe, cfm+ and CCV so mine should clean up to. I planned on taking that manifold off when i do head studs...
my truck only had 30k, 25k tuned, and a lot with tunes that shut down the egr. So it was not that bad. It will never be clean, but there is not a build up anymore
I have a thread on my setup. Do a search. Should be able to find it. It's definitely a worthwhile mod and can be done fairly quickly if you have everything you need on hand.
can anyone tell me what is the cut off for needing a waste gate ? if i do just egr delete and run a 300 ish tune will i need a waste gate ? i have herd that if u remove the egr and do not add wg it will build to much pressure and blow coolant ?
