Its really not a great mod in my opinion my friend. There's reasons why that piece is in a turbo, ppl take it off to be kool. It really doesnt do anything for you.
see the thing is, when you stick your turbo back in- remember to leave that wire unplugged. it helps the turbo spool better and makes it that much louder!
haha that a way to cut on that turbo! nothin better than small metal shaving getting caught in there just for the cool rediculous sound that will get annoying one of these days. might as well do the smoke switch to or just leave it unplugged
It does not change the sound much. I don't know why it has the ring when aftermarket turbos do not have it. and there won't be any metal shavings in it. I soaked it in diesel and scrubbed it with degreaser.
Wow this forum is harsh. Ive been a member on others, but this one is probably the cruelest one. LOL Congrats!
Best thing to do before doing a mod, is search it here, and see what the general feeling of it is. If these guys roast you, its becuase the mod was orignally done to sound cool or make more smoke, which isnt respected too much on these boards. Good to see you working on your truck, just maybe do a little research before cutting on stuff.
Wow. That was harsh. To each his own. What happened to constructive criticism?
Dont tell me you guys havnt altered your exhaust on any vehicle for sound differences other than flow improvements and lower EGTs
So by putting on a cold air intake wouldn't be a smart thing? removing the air box or lid makes the turbo louder less restriction. the ring does the same. the exhaust the same way straight pipe louder removing parts. should I mention the egr delete? look at r race turbos see if they have a silencer ring.
Whatever dude. Do what you want, Not arguing with newbies on here that think they know everything. ostwhore2: Oh and Race Turbo's seriously !!! they are made that way DUH. Like your stock turbo was made a certain way. Hmmm just like over boosting a stock turbo its says bye bye. Like I said do what you want. You get opinions from people who been in the game longer and you wanna fire back, not gonna waste my time and neither will they. :blah:
Well of course we have altered our exhaust, but it was to lower our EGT's, and in return we got a sweet sound out of it. All I was saying was that you should research anything you have a question about on this forum, because chances are that somebody has already tried it or done it. All we are saying is that its not worht the time and risk because you dont see any improvement.
I wont do it to my turbo, but (like stated above), glad to see your working on your truck. But get an idea of how everybody feels about it before you go and post what you did. This way you not surprised when people want to roast you.
Well the truck sounds much better now. maybe not for old people who like diesel engines just to put higher price fuel in it. the dodge guys have been removing them for years. the main reason I cut it was to just see if it would work. if not buy a new turbo big deal. the next thing (probably next week) is put a bigger compressor wheel in it. yes I know I may get roasted for it but I don't care. I like to work on it.
dodge guys have done it because one they are "dodge guys" which should say something right there and two because they pop out they dont have to cut them out. now the upgraded compressor wheel is different. thats something that has been a disscussion for awhile now. the main one is the batmowheel. now that would be a good upgrade!
and that turbo is called the powemax turbo. they are cheaper though PTP
