Well I got tired of waiting for the custom hubs for my 10.5 conversion so I decided to experiment with the hubs. I have a few sets of hubs so I'm gonna play around with them some more. First I redrilled the 8 on 6.5 between the original 8 on 170 holes to get the OBS pattern. This is easy and doesn't cost much to do and the correct bolt pattern.

My next set of hubs should be done soon, hopefully in a week if I have the time to do them. With these hubs I plan on going thru the existing 8 on 170 holes, using a larger wheel stud and machine the stud down for the 9/16. I think this will be a "cleaner" way to do it but alot more time and money. Its really not needed as the dual pattern hub is plenty strong enough. The flange is 1/2 thick. Here are some pics of the work so far...

On this pic I went thru the one of the 8 on 170 holes and was almost able to use the stock wheel studs. Its close, but not close enough, so the larger knurled studs should work fine.

Here is a pic of how much the bolt pattern is off. Not much. (8 on 170 hub to the 8 on 6.5 rotor)

Ok, this seems like very do-able plan, but, as with anything, what is the con for drilling the extra set of stud holes? Is it supposed to weaken the hub? There can't just be the pro, gotta have a con in there somewhere...

Won't the R&P from the 10.25 go into the 10.5? I also have the 3.55 gears and need to keep them!

Any updates?

How did you drill the bolt pattern? Do you have a mill or something like that?

Thanks.

Picked up the 95% complete 2001 10.5'' rearend. It needs the centersection rebuilt, but I feel better about doing that anyway. I am only missing the hub retaining nut for one side. Anyone have one laying around?

Now I am going to look into having the hubs machined for the 8x6.5 bolt pattern, lug studs, van rotors and have the center section rebuilt. This is a great thread.

Thanks.

They might be ok. The Obs studs are the same as the e250 e350 disc vans. If I remember right either they were too long for my stock van caps I wanted to use or the knurl was not in the right location. I have a ton of the Obs studs if you want those to save your money.

Thank you for the offer. I ordered OBS studs already. I will keep an eye on your progress. I don't know when I will get this project done, still need to find a machine shop in my area and get the rearend rebuilt.

Thanks for all of the great info!
