just wondering if anyone has ever swapped power windows and locks into a truck that originally had manual locks and windows. is the wiring for it already behind the door panel or would i have to run all new wiring? do the window motors bolt on or would i have to get a whole new door?
i did this about 6 months ago, i found an xlt at a junk yard, pulled the wiring harness, and the the doors, then swapped all the hardware into my xl doors, and used the xlt door panel.
The wiring is not there, the harness you need...is one big azz harness, it runs from the fuse box and to the RKE module(if the truck has RKE) under the dash, down the drivers side floor, behind the seats and then to each door, it has the wires for: Dome lights, Door Ajar switches, speakers, third break light, power seats, seat belt reminder, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, and if you have a 03 or newer it has the marker and turn signal for the mirrors too.
I did a 06 reg cab a few years back. I used a donor harness and I ran the wires I was missing behind the dash to the pass side and spliced the existing harness in to the donor(with heat shrink connections). So all fuses and such work as they should and the wire colors are correct. I just did'nt feel like gutting the entire cab to remove the old harness and install the new one.
The donor truck also provided the window motors, power lock actuators, switches, door panels and the RKE module.
ive also thought about it but that seems like a lot of wiring and that is not my speciality lol, how much did you have in getting all the parts from the junk yard?
I know im a little late to the party, but i swapped mine a few weeks ago and i cant get the power locks to work. Ford said i need my vsm or gem programmed for it and a whole bunch of modules that came from the same truck bc they cant access build data. This is for a 05 f250 btw.
I just did this job it is a big job lots of patience needed get the SJB as well as the wire harness before you even start
