Had pinion seal rep;aced at the garage and it's leaking again after 5,000 miles. Anybody?

My '99 had leaking pinion seals for the first 10 years. It was changed several times by me and the dealer.

A couple years ago I put on an aluminum diff cover from an 08. I tapped it for a 3/8 NPT plug. I over filled it with oil.

No more leaks. Not a drop.

I'm not sure if the stock fluid level was too low and if you parked it on an incline the seal dried out and then it leaked or if it was overheating. Whatever the cause, it doesn't leak any more.

If you didnt do it the firts time, you may need to put sealant on the outside diameter of the seal. The part that seals to the differential housing.
