doing research on HID companys before I bought mine. Most of the problems people posted about retro ended up being grounding issues. get your meter out and let us know where you have voltage and ohm your ground to the battery.
I did order retro with a delay for the fogs. do you have this delay relay in your setup?
i just installed the headlight 55W 6000K kit. The headlight kit is also a plug and play kit just like the fog light kit, but there are grounds for the ballasts.
I popped another 10 in it Thursday night and it blew instantly, threw a 15 in it and it has worked flawlessly.. and I've already been flashed four times..
Ford ran some pretty small fuses to the stock fogs because they are only 45w bulbs. But, as long as the gauge of wire is the same as the headlamps, a 15A fuse per side would be safe to run... but you got to check the wire gauge, the copper itself or the labeling on the jacket to be 18AWG.
Im having what I think is a ballast issue cause I can only get one of them to come on I've plugged em up every way I can and one or the other will come on but not both
A lot of the Ford trucks are fused at 10A to the fogs. That means a problem on some trucks if the voltage is low due to restriction, as the fuse itself acts like one. Using a relayed wiring harness is recommended there or bump up to 15A fuses (although we really do not recommend the "upping" of fuses).
Yeah just had a ballast burn out on me i think its my relay harness converting 99-04 lights to 05 sorry dont remember the bulb numbers. Ill email you todd. I used a foglight ballast for now but has anyone had problems with there conversion harness from old style bulbs 99-04 to the newer stlye 05-06?
The harness won't cause anything like that directly, but if there is lack of good contact (particularly at the ground) it can lead to a ballast locking up under the power management protection.
Just be sure your grounds are to the frame, the frame sanded down to bare metal with dielectric grease applied. Same goes for the battery (+) connection and don't forget to grease the connections in the harness, to the ballast sockets etc. to avoid any future issues.
Unless of course you are talking about those 9007 to H13 connections from the front end conversions? Some people have had issues with those before, and recommend just using our H13 kits with the 97-04 Ford truck with 9007 wiring selection.
