I have owned a 7.3 for the last 6 years. I have taken it to the same shop for the same amount of time.
I was browsing through some past receipts, in 2007 I paid 75$ for an oil change. My last oil change cost 150$ this seems a little steep, or is this average?
I still have a local shop that will do 75, actually one of the dealers is 99 iirc.
My old local favorite shop charged 120, havent been back.
At 10 plus for a gallon and a range of prices for a filter , 75 seems easy to me i just dont have the time to mess with it. To save 15 bucks , i will spend that in fuel and cleaning to get rid of the oil.
I manage oil changes so here is some info: Our cost of bulk oil has increased 31% since jan. 1st. Our 15qt change is $81.99. That is with a semi-syn latest rated oil. We aslo offer a 15qt AMSOIL OE 15-40 change for $138.99 (4x4) We also ofer a optional Mobil 1 Filter that is 17 or 20 bucks more depending on 7.3 or 6/6.4.
hell with synthetic at 30 bones a gallon and a 20 dollar donaldson filter oil changes are just expensive. if you are usin conventional oil you could change your own oil for less than 60
I buy my own synthetic oil and filter, and pay my tire shop $15 to change it for me while I get my free tire rotation. Well worth it IMO, they do it in five minutes and I don't have to find a place to dump the oil.
I drive truck for a living. When I fuel, I have a points card for every gallon of fuel bouht, a penny gets aded to my card. I save those points and buy a gallon of Mobil Delvac. (18.50) After a couple months, I have enough oil to do my oil change. My cost is the Napa Gold Filter and a little time. The company I work for actually buys my oil.
I sure wouldn't pay $20 for an oil filter. Mobil 1 synthetic media filters are $10 NOT on sale; they had a grand opening sale at the "Man Mall" (Farm & Fleet) a while back and had Mobil 1 filters for $4.99, incluing our big M1-601. I got lucky and bought a nearby AZ's remaining supply of Mobil 1 TDT 5w30 for $4 a quart. So I'm doing $66 synthetic (filter included) oil changes for a while.
I usually do my own, which cost me about 80-90. Due to the horrid winter/spring weather, I took the truck to a drive-through lube shop. $150 for a oil change.
Ill have about 55 in a synthethtic oil change this week doing it myself. My local quik lube sells me their oil at just above cost as I used to work there.
