i believe the hub bearing on my 01 f250 is going out. makes a loud noise like metal hitting metal when i hit bumps in the road and at times the best way i could describe it is it sounds like a metal pipe rotating really fast on a stationary object. not the best description but i couldnt think of the words.
what do you folks think? its coming from drivers side
it sounds like you are loosing your hub bearing. The plastic(rubber) ring you see is just a dust lip on the stub axle. Out here in Nevada the dry out and fall apart within a year of replacement. Not a huge deal but you should replace them while you have the hub off anyway. good luck
I've done lots of them when i worked for the local ford dealer. They only take about an hour and a half. The hardest part is changing out the 4 studs that hold it to the knuckle. dont be scared of it.
that doesnt work because the studs are threaded in.
I'm talking about the 4 studs that hold it to the knuckle, not the lug studs. The hub should come with the lug studs already in it.
I havent done one in a few years but the ford ones didnt come with studs back then.I would double nut the studs and turn them out with a open end wrench. They have locktite on them but its not a big deal. If the new ones have new studs now then thats awsome. that would save a step. Good luck.
Got the timken ones at advanced auto. They came with the abs cable, new studs, o-rings and a 3 year warranty. You have to reuse the nuts.
