i have 8 fords f350 & f550s from 2008- 2011 in the last year i have blown 7 engines all 6.4s the 1 2011 i have seems really good. Can a 6.4 be swapped for a 6.7 in a 2009 f450? I am done with the 6.4 complete junk!
I think the 6.7 has a bright future ahead of it, but the 6.4 can be made bullet proof. I would look into the egr delete and ect that make that engine live longer and stronger before a swap.
That being said, anything can be done with enough money and time.
I would imagine it would be a massive headache. More emmissions crap and the think the 6.7 takes up a lot more room under the hood with the reverse flow heads.
It can be done- and Just as easy as swapping in a 5.9. There are a few things that you would want to change, such as wiring it and running an '05 ECM. More or less you will be running everything as an '05 5.9, but with a 6.7 motor.
It's doable but Id spend the money bulletproofing a 6.4 you would have slot of money tied up in buying all the parts and fabricating stuff to work. Plus labor unless you would be doing your own work.
Dont fix it. I have gone down this road and have elected to drop in a cummins due to the fact that the parts for the 6.4 are so expensive and will remain that way due to the fact that the build run is only three years, and with a cummins there is no more cab off repairs to deal with. Nothing like paying upwards of 3500.00 before they even start to look at fixing the problem. STUPID.
it should not be THAT BAD.
but you will need a donor truck to get the engine, maybe trans, mounts, electrical system, and all the other parts from.
otherwise i can see it getting real expensive real fast.
If you have 7 blown engines I don't think the 6.4 is your problem
