dam that sucks big time, maybe this had somthing to do with the defueling and high egts you had?

I would imagine, at the time pyro 1 read in the 1400's

That's my plan, yes

Keep us posted what Ford says. I imagine they're going to go over your truck with a fine toothed comb and bring in every specialist they can. The 6.7 is a big deal for Ford, they aren't just going to take your word that it just went boom.

Idk there was a 6.7 at my dealer, had deleted all the exhaust stuff, kem tunes I believe and banks intake and at 10,000 blew the turbo to pieces, brought it in with all the stuff off because the diesel techs are all cool and ford didn't send any one out to look at anything.

Sure will

Who says the tuner broke the turbo and not a flaw from the factory?

Ooooooo that had to sound lovely

Who says ford is gonna pay?

You did?

the Ford inspectors can be sent by random or require a crap load of pictures

tuner or not a brand new truck should not blow up like that. look at how many ford diesels all of us have had threw the years and how many miles are racked up on them and the turbos EVENTUALLY fail, not 6000 miles in. think its safe to say the turbo was going to go but when is the question.

Sorry to hear it. Sounds like there was a flaw in the turbo, and it would have let go tuned or stock. 6,000 miles is just way too fast to see failure. I would love to know Ford's diagnosis and maybe see some pictures. I am guessing the shaft snapped and the turbine wheel got spit down the exhaust.

Haha must have been a failure in the turbo.

This could be interesting. I think the turbo should withstand a little more than what it did. Sure the tune may have increased the RPM's, but to fail at 6,000 is rediculous. I am thinking a 6.4 dually may the safe route to go if this becomes the norm.

What if this stock turbo never works with tunes? I guess everyone will have to choose to void the warranty and upgrade the turbo.

jw what was the build date on the truck? My 6.7 is down as of now too i have the h&s mini maxx dpf delete, EGR delete flo pro 4', and afe intake. my ford tech said the fourth valve in my truck was pretty much gone and they're prob going to send me a new motor.... cross my fingers and pray every thing will be ok im really good freinds with the guy and he said it wouldnt be a problem. I'm going to go check on my truck today and get some more info. its been in the shop for 6 days now.

I baby my truck ive had it on hot some just to play around but i run it on mild all the time. I've had my tuner since april and the truck has somewhere around 23,000 miles on it.

Build date January 2011 I believe, got it march 14
As far as tune mode I'd say 50% hot 50% mild

What kind of boost numbers were you seeing? Max boost designed for these turbos was 22psi IIRC

#30 ·
21-24 hot mode

I will be curious to see how many of these trucks start failing now that tunes and mods are out. I am glad I have about 12 months to decide which year dually to buy, because you know I won't leave anything stock:)
