7.3l Powerstroke Blue Smoke

Hello, sadly a few weeks ago i flipped my dad's dually and crushed the cab. He's going to get another cab and and switch interiors to fix the truck. a couple days ago we cranked the engine to be sure everything was okay. before cranking it we checked the oil and it had none. there's no busted oil pan or anything. so we added oil and it fired right up but it missed for a little while then eventually straightened out and ran smooth. but there is a large amount of blue smoke now. what could this be. the engine had no problems before the rollover.

thanks, any help is appreciated

Re: 7.3l Powerstroke Blue Smoke

Your're realy lucky you didnt get to watch a 7.3 gernade from oil in the intercooler and sticking it wide open. The oil is laying on top the pistons in the intercooler in the air box. You need to pull all of these things out and have them cleaned/flushed BEFORE you even think about starting it again. If you MUST start it again. pull the IC boots off first and pull the intake tube loose. It is going to smoke for several mins/miles until you get all the oil burnt out of the cylinders. Hope it helps.

No problem. You dont need to pull the pistons out btw. Thats kind of the way it sounded. but the IC, all the boots, the intake elbow. You get the idea.

Haha no. I am in the business of making flipped diesel trucks run again. Ask me how I know about that sticking wide open thing. I actually enjoyed watching that 5.9 cr come apart.

Re: 7.3l Powerstroke Blue Smoke

Pull IC, boots, pipes, the air cleaner box, and tube. This where most of your oil will be.
