Ok, I have a 2002 f250 and I serviced the locking hubs yesterday and changed the vacuum lines today. I jacked the truck up today and switched the truck to 4 high and the hubs locked in like they are supposed too but my problem is that they only stay locked for about 10 to 15 seconds. The what would cause this? I have all new seals in the passenger side hub. Its almost as if i lost the vacuum or it stopped pulling a vacuum. Any ideas?
Yes you have a leak. Iran be from a couple places. Either one of the hub prints only one side of which you replaced and it can also be from the yellow print that goes on the back side of the unit bearing. First I would replace the other sides hub oring. See if that works. Then when is the last time you pulled the unit bearings and serviced the needles bearing in the rear of it? Might want to Confirm the unit bearings are tight with no binding or noise when spun. If you still have the leak you Right need to pull the bearings and change that print. While your at it service the needle bearings. It should be done every 15k IMO.
