Hey guys, really quick, I want to add a 3/4" plate ive got on top the factory blocks. There is plenty of thread on the u-bolts, and in reality, it would still be less height than the f-350 blocks.
Would you recommend against this, or is this all good? I just to know if there is a huge warning against it. Thanks in advanced...
Let me just add before I get burned, I know general idea is a big no no. However I had planned on welding the factory block to the plate, which again is only 3/4" thick, then reinstalling...
To tell you the truth it won't change anything at all. 3/4" is is almost nothing. Your factory block is 2" right? So 2 3/4" total. It wont hurt a thing. Stacking blocks isn't as bad as some guys think. There are a few lift kits that require you to (wouldn't make them if they were that dangerous). Mine has a 4.5" Rough country lift on my F-350. The kit comes with a 3" block to stack on top of the 3" factory block and still no problems even under heavy load. I'm a welder and welded them together just because I was bored but it won't hurt not too. As long as your center bolt goes through both blocks and into the axle. Torque them to spec.
IMO
-rear axle only obviously
-never stack higher then 6"
-if stacking bigger blocks (4"-6" total) and putting out higher HP and torque then stock or towing really heavy, use traction bars.
-use a new set of u-bolts for larger blocks
Like I said for your little bit of lift, 3/4" block on a 2" won't even make a difference.
The only thing to consider with using just a plate is there is no pin to locate into the block (or spring pad) below it. To make it work safely, you should bolt it onto the leaf pack with a new longer through-bolt.
I have access to a full fabrication shop that we have in the drilling yard, so getting a pin hole drilled isn't an issue. I didn't know there was a pin that goes through the top block, but I will be sure to do it right. I was considering new u bolts also. The 3/4" blocks will level there of the truck after my leveling kit is installed witting 1/4" of the front ride height. I will be sure to leave myself plenty of time to fab it right. I might even be able to make new u bolts in the shop. Thanks for the input guys.
