    Good morning Mark,
I was wondering if you could recommend a 4R100 transmission builder or shop. I’m located in Tampa Florida and have been looking at the dieselsite and monster transmissions just because they’re close and I can save on having everything shipped. That being said I don't mind at all paying for shipping on a good transmission. I would also be willing take it to a shop and having mine rebuilt if you knew a good one near me. Thank for the help.

Fear of the unknown, I guess. Seems like every time I try something new, I lose my shirt having to fix what I messed up. I figure if it's working with what I have - stick with it. All of my and our other vehicles I bought new and have changed them over at the first scheduled fluid change interval.
Thank you for the information. You've alleviated my concern of changing it out for Mobil 1. I appreciate you taking the time to correspond with me. Have a wonderful day. :)

Thank you for your reply, sir. I have always been a Mobil 1 man and have it front-to-to-back in every other vehicle I have. The reason I have not changed this vehicle over is it's had conventional Rotella for engine oil since the first oil change and Ford transfer case and differential fluid since their first change. The truck was a one owner and the maintenance book is meticulously documented with every receipt from every repair since new. The wildcard is the transmission but given the history I have, I figured it was a safe bet to assume since it's a Ford Parts item then it has Ford fluid in it as well. You mentioned Mercon V but mine (the dipstick and owners manual) reads just plain old Mercon. All of the fluid I've bought from Ford seems to be synthetic now including the front differential fluid. I'm just trying to be cautious as I cannot afford to ruin a component by putting in the wrong fluid. Thank you so much for your expertise. I appreciate your time and have a wonderful day.

    Mark,
Good afternoon, sir. I have a question regarding transmission fluid change in my truck ('01, 250, 7.3, automatic, 4wd) if you don't mind, please.
My truck had a new (I say "new") from Ford dealer Parts Department put in just prior to my buying it. I can give you the exact mileage and date if you like. I have all of the original documentation, dates, warranty info (2/24, I believe), etc. I have not changed the fluid yet and I've had the truck about a year and a half/25,000 miles. Fluid still smells good and is the clear reddish color like new. Question is this: Motorcraft transmission fluid and filter only or would say a CarQuest or Purolator filter and and other premium brand fluid be OK? Have always used Motorcraft or Purolator filters. When I worked for Ford in the early 2000's, I believe Purolator actually made Ford's filters for them anyway but that's been a long time ago now. Your thoughts, please, sir?

Hi. I started a thread in the trans section a while back about my odd problem with a 5r110. Looks like you are very knowledgeable on them and was hoping you could give me your opinion. Thanks. Cade

    I have a 96 f250 with 7.3 and e4od. I found an e4od from a 97 e350 with 7.3 and f7up-ta forge mark. Will it fit my f250? Any help is appreciated!

Hello I have a question about my E4OD transmission I'd like to ask you. I swapped an E4OD from a 1996 or 1997 F250 4x4 into my 1997 F350 4x4. Both run the 7.3 powerstroke motor. I've noticed that the truck goes through the gears and gets to 4th at about 35ish mph and stays there from then on. If I hit the pedal to pass someone at speed the truck goes into neutral. Also, when running at 60-70 mph the truck is in 4th gear running about 2100-2200 rpms, that is very high I believe. Do you have any ideas as to what the problem could be, perhaps the newer transmission has different gearing? Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

good morning mark from the west coast. thanks for the info on that swap questoin i asked but pretty sure im not going to that. im going to focus on thir 4r100 and try to make it a pullin beast. i had it rebuilt about 5 yrs ago and had a TC built for it by a company called DP products. the tranny shop said that i had all steel planet gears in it and he put a shift kit in it. not sure about the valve body do you recomend one that might make a inprovment. ever since i had the work done it seems it shifts into OD way to soon. and i dont know about stall speed or how it even works. so i guess what im asking is how and what do i need to do to make this tranny a towing beast. thanks again for all your input.

Good morning Mark, I have a 1997 Ford 7.3 with the E40D Transmission. My overdrive light just started blinking and I had the codes pulled. There were 2 codes, P0603 and P1728. Is there any info you can provide me on what I should do next?
Thanks for any help in advance.

It could be many things. The only way I know to find out what it is is to use a scan tool that can look at live data. Somewhere there is some bad data and you need to find where that is.

No codes. A friend had a computer program that reads just about everything. Fluid level good. Had everyone I know stumped. Could it be the valve body our something like that that could be sticking sometimes.
