6.4 main bearings

I am in the process of rebuilding a 08 6.4 that I got blown up. Unfortunately I didn't know till now that all but one of the mains spun in it. My machine shop says they can't fix it unless I find oversize main bearings. Surprisingly enough, the crank is fine. I guess what I'm wondering if anyone knows who sells oversize OD bearings. I have talked to a few people, and they are available just not sure where. Any help would be great.

Thanks!

Re: 6.4 main bearings

*All* but one?! What the heck is out of balance?

Being an 08 it's a 5R tranny, something flywheel/ torque converter back cause that?

As for a source, try Callahan Bearings. They're local to me here in Pennsy but they ship and they're the type of place that you can give them the old bearing and tell them you want the same thing just a few thousands oversize.

Lemme look for a number for ya

Good luck brother... and look into what's not balanced. Cracked flywheel? Retarded torque converter? Even something as dumb as the block not tight to the trans... Something ain't right to have caused that.

Wait a second, could the bedplate just be retarded and need replacing?

Re: 6.4 main bearings

Thanks for the number.

The truck came in the shop not running, so don't know a lot about its history. I do know that #7 piston was melted almost to non-existence, which probably made it out of balance. Well, not probably 😀

The machine shop said everything else is fixable, just need to find these bearings.

I saw mahle-clevite has .010 .020 and .030 UNDERSIZE mains... I always thought you get oversize when you grind the crank? Maybe that's what I'm looking for?

The crank didn't get chewed into and journals need to be cut?

Re: 6.4 main bearings

Right. The bearings were seized into the crank so it is fine. Might need polished up a bit.

They can line bore the block but it's chewed up enough that they can't get it back to factory spec.

Re: 6.4 main bearings

I dont think your machine shop knows what its going. They need to mill the block and the bed plate. Then line bore it back to spec. I would call around and get a second opinion

Re: 6.4 main bearings

It was pretty well stock with about 239,000 on it. I would say maintenance was very much neglected...

It would seem to me, with as common this problem is on theses engines, that all these other big engine rebuild companies would have figured something out for a fix. They can't all be throwing the block away or we would have a bunch of 08-10 trucks sitting around with no motors
