For a while now my 2010 6.4 has been acting weird. Intermittently the gauges stop working, ac stops blowing cold and the traction control turns off. If I kill the truck it won't start back up and flashes thru all the warnings. Sunday it started doing it but everything came back on and the battery light and engine light stayed on. Got to my destination and it has not started since. My research is pointing towards the bcm but I'm looking for solid advice.
Sorry bud, the electric gremlins have struck. Judging by the crickets, no one here either has experience or wants to tackle it. I have a similar issue that my idiot temperature gauge intermittently drops out, the overheat fan kicks on, and I get the wrench trouble light. Usually after a bit, the gauge comes back up, the wrench light goes off, the extra fan shuts off, and all is well. But I'm worried that something else is going on. I asked about my issue awhile back with no bites.
If someone offers you an answer, I'm interested as well as these gauge issues *might* be related. So, I'm listening in on this, too.
i had a problem with my fan kicking on and off a little while back and the wrench light would come on.. i had my x4 hooked up and it was pulling a couple of codes for a trans temp sensor..
i would shut the truck off and then start up and go good for a few miles, then once the trans temp sensor would fail, the fan would kick on and the wrench light would come on..
Have you checked all your ground connections? Battery connections as well. Sounds like a main feed connection is taking a dump. maybe to one of the fuse or relay blocks. Can you find the diagrams to see if these items are all grouped together in a block?

I've checked the battery ground, but no others. I need to find a diagram to check the other grounds though... I've just been too chicken (or lazy- take your pick) to do it...
i read a little while back about a bulletin ford posted about a wire grounding or shorting out in the engine bay near the turbo shield. apparently the wire rubs on the shield and eventually wear right through the coating.. don't know if this helps in your particular situation, but here is the link that shows where it is and the build dates affected.. 6.4L Problems - Diesel Power Magazine
You Guys are going to laugh at me!!!, but I had some dump intermittent eclectic or electronic problems. I was ask if I had clean my battery terminals. Of course not I just bought 2 new Bosch 850's last year, why would they need service this soon?
Well I decide to give it a try. Good cleaning, and protective spray. trouble Gone! I have come to understand these great engines are very voltage sensitive, I guess?? Can hurt?????
I had similar issues with my electronics. Radio wasn't working right...kept seeing odd things happening in the gauges. my truck eventually sounded like it was starting a little slower, like the starter wasn't cranking as fast as it usually does. it was a bad battery! once it was replaced the battery, all the issues went away instantly!
