6.4 Reliability

Hey guys, been looking into trucks lately and searching the forums and it got me wondering, what reliability issues come up with these trucks? I'm aware that job 1 trucks had radiator issues among other things but what about late job 1 and up? Would an egr delete, dpf delete, and tuning keep me from having problems with it down the road? Any insight is appreciated.

There's a thread explaining all the jobs and problems with those jobs. I'm doing this on my phone otherwise I'd post you the link. But if your gonna do an egr delete, dpf delete, and tunes than these are very good trucks. Tons of people on here have had they're trucks tuned for 15000+ will little to no problems. I've got 10000 miles on mine tuned. Not a single issue. Trucks runs strong. All I have is an intake, exhaust and spartan tunes. my truck is a job 1 too btw

Re: 6.4 Reliability

I've read the sticky at the top of the section, unless your referring to something else. Thanks for sharing your experience though. I have been seeing a lot lately on a few powerstroke forums about a lot of guys having trouble with the 6.4 so i figured i'd go directly off of peoples experiences. The choice is between a 6.4 or lbz duramax.

Re: 6.4 Reliability

The 6.4 is a better truck, hands down, for many reasons.

The tuning potential is by far the best of any model from any maker. You can make these trucks fast, and bulletproof, for way less money than anything else.

Delete the emissions crap, delete or block the EGR coolers, and put a tuner on it, and the 6.4 will make you a very happy man.

You can do all of this for around a grand.

You'd spend 3x (or more) trying to get a Dodge or Chevy that powerful, while still being reliable.

Have you driven them, checked out the interiors? I just don't see where the comparison is. I've driven them all, and the 6.4 is hands-down the best so far.

Re: 6.4 Reliability

Only problem i ever had out of mine was clogged DPF. They replaced it under warranty and I deleted the next week. Not a hiccup since except for my D#@$ radio and nav!

I have driven both but the 6.4 was an F450 used at work. The lbz i drove was a friends with efi live and built trans so i have a slightly jaded view of the two. I look at it from a reliability with power standpoint. I'm well aware of how expensive it is to build the lbz to the level of a deleted and tuned 6.4. I prefer the 6.4 but have heard horror stories of guys buying them with 120,000 miles or more, deleting and tuning them, and having headgasket or injector issues.
