Ford 460 VS 7.3L Diesel?

Does anyone know if the big block 460's and the 7.3l PSD have the same bell housing bolt patern? I have a 1979 F-150 with a 460 in it, and have contemplated putting a 7.3L PSD in it... Any thoughts?

They do NOT. I have seen several 460 ZF5s machined out to bolt up to a 7.3 though. The 460 ZF5 has a WAY lower 1st and reverse than the 87-95 Diesel S42-ZF5 and even lower than the Diesel 96/97 S47-ZF5. They are really nice for maneuvering a trailer around.

But you will want an OD trans anyway, so i would not use your current trans

I was thinking about that after I posted, thanks. I also found a build write up on a 79 f350 with a 7.3l after I posted.

We have a nice 5 axis mill at work that sits more than it runs... I am sure we can make an adaptor to make it work......

No need for an adapter. It is just a matter of milling some of the holes a lil different
