5R110 Tranny Problems

I have a 2004 F350 SD, with the 6.0 engine. My problem is that the tranny would not move if I started out in low drive or even 2nd drive. It would shift through all gears while in drive fine. I changed the filter and fluid and I could spin the tires in low drive. After a 1000 miles or better it started acting up again. Now it will not shift out of low gears very good until the engine/tranny warms up. This is happening in 90 degree weather. When I start the truck in the morning and do not let it run 10 minutes, it's really hard shifting out of lower gears. If I let the truct run 10 minutes, the tranny shifts fine and no problems at all. If I drive to work and let it sit all day, same problem, won't shift until warmed up.
I've had to solder the connections on the ficm unit twice now. I'm not sure what all the ficm controls or if as anything to do with this problem.. Has anyone had a problem like this?

I've seen this before. The problem is that the engine isn't making the torque it should be until it is warmed up.

Re: 5R110 Tranny Problems

FICM Fuel injector Control Module just controls the injectors .. u should probably check voltages again and consider a outside service for repair ,, just be warned many won't touch a FICM that had a DIY attempt

Re: 5R110 Tranny Problems

It will move in low, it just doesn't want to shift up into 2nd or drive very well if I just start the truck and go. It has no power until it warns up going down the road. I have to be carefull not to pull out in traffic if it's not warmed up. It was 58 degrees here this morning. I went out and started the truck, it woke up everyone in the campground. It was like a knocling noise from the injectors. After it ran 10 minutes, it smooth out and ran fine. Took off and shift fine. I talked to Ed from FICMrepair.com, he said it sounded like the FICM was bad and affecting the injectors. I'm sending the FICM into him for repair and getting a gallon of oil additive that will clean the injectors. This Ed guy was supper giving me infor about my problem. I'll see what happens after I get it back on. Has anyone used a lighter weight oil than 15/40??
