5 speed rattle

Ok guys I got one for ya.


Don't know the specs on the trans but here is a little info.
1995 f350 5 speed manual.

I had a clutch put in it a little over a year ago, I am now getting a rattle from the transmission area when you push the clutch in at say a stop light or when you are parking it. I'm sure it does it at higher speeds but I just can't hear it I'm sure.


Question is what could the rattle be ? It's just a light sound almost like s spring or something nothing heavy or large.. no issues with running or shifting



Any clues as to where to start?

Dual mass flywheel probly singing its death song. what clutch did you put in? Did you resurface or replace the flywheel?

97 Single Cab F250 4x4 5 speed

Swapped D-60
Locked front and rear
160 sticks
Wildman Tunes
T500 HPOP
OFE clutch
Linex rockers
35" Toyo M/Ts
and a bunch more...

Upgraded to the single mass hd clutch and new fly wheel and fork .
I'm going to pull the inspection cover in the morning and se if i can see anything loose.


Any pointers as to what to look for I'm not a tranny guy.
Wife drove it today and said there was a thump when shifting from 2nd to 3rd ???don't know rats a new one and I haven't been out in it so not sure on that one.

Sound like the tranny is getting ready to crap out on me????

Ok I took of the inspection plate for the clutch and all looked good.
Drove it to and back from town today about 10 mile round trip.
I most certainly has a thump when shifting from 1st to 2 nd if you let off the clutch but if you ease off of it it is not noticeable or not existent.

Going to drain it and take off the side plates and see if I can see something.


Any clues as to what it could be.

OK ...
DRAINED the tranny fluid looked good,took off the side inspection covers and everything looked good all gears that I could see all still looked new ran a magnet through the drained fluid with no residue as well on the inside of the tranny nothing there.



Refilled it up after cleaning everything up real good with 4 quarts of motorcraft mercon.
Drove it around the block "7.1 miles " it still has the the rattle and a very distinct thump when shifting from 1/2 gear. Although the sincros are working nicely as I could very smoothly shift through all gears up and down without the clutch.



I'm lost. Guess ill drop it out and check the bearings.


Any suggestions??

The shutter comes from the single mass...

The single mass sounds like its suttering and is annoying but the dual mass is the one you want for a DD. IF you have a single mass it should always shutter
