Delo 15-40 VS Rotella 15-40

I have spent some time looking thought the forums and have not found quite what I am looking for. I am not interested in running synthetic and I change my oil every 5k. So like the title says which one is better? I would like responses based on UOA and personal experience.

Please letís not turn this into a battle I just want to find the best conventional oil for my truck. I am also open to other brands as long as I have the data to back them up.

Thanks

Use whichever one "you" like the best. Your engine doesn't care.

If only those who knew what they were talking about replied, this thread would still be on page one.

Re: Delo 15-40 VS Rotella 15-40

Well I have alittle exp with this on the IDI, haven't tried Delo in the PSD.
Someone told me Rotella was junk & to put Delo in because it wouldn't foam like Rotella does. So I ran Delo 15-40 for about 3000 miles but it seemed loud. I just changed back to Rotella 15-40 about a week or 2 ago & right away the truck was quieter on cold starts & all around.
Now we are talking 2 diffrent engines here but I tend to stick to Rotella. Put Rotella SAE30 in the 00 & it seems to run just fine in the winter.

I don't think either is a bad oil just my truck seemed to be happer with the Rotella so that's what she'll get.

Sorry guys, not tryin to jack the thread but does anyone on this site use Cenpeco products? I use them in everything we have and have always had good luck with them.

Re: Delo 15-40 VS Rotella 15-40

One of the reasons I prefer Delo 400 over Rotella in a modified 7.3L is it's additive package. Delo 400 uses Moylbdenum like Schaeffer's does - just in a smaller amount. Here are two oil analysis reports to show my point. The first is a virgin oil sample of Rotella 15W-40. The second is of Delo 400 15W-40. Looking at the additive levels on the reports, you can see the difference in the additive packages.

Unfortunately the Delo 400 report I posted is not of a virgin sample but I think it will sufice to show my point - even though the additive levels are lower than a virgin sample. I thought I had a Delo 400 virgin sample on my laptop at home, it must be on the work one.

I ran Amsoil for quite a while until my iron went crazy. I switched to Delo 400 15-40 and my Blackstone analysis told the tale----use Delo and never look back.

Good to bump into you again Pappy.....I learned alot from you a few years ago on TDS. I still owe you.

Especially when I ran into the iron wear increase running Amsoil.

You're quite welcome on the Amsoil issue. I was a real Amsoil promoter and was very disappointed when my Blackstone reports started to go south. It didn't seem to matter what viscosity I used in the amsoil line up either. Once I switched to Delo, everything went back to normal or below. Maybe Amsoil has come up with an addititional additive to combat this issue, don't know. Also haven't heard if this iron issue is being seen in gassers using Amsoil synthetic after continued use. Be interested if anyone has any info on that.

Used to run Rotella, but after switching to Delo my truck ran a lot smoother.
