E-450 general questions......

Just picked up a 1997 E-450....as you guessed 7.3l. I started going over it today and have run into some things that I wanted some answers about.

1. I started with air intake removal.....What in the world is this (pointing to in the picutre)? It is a big empty box....why is it there? does it have any real point? can I remove it? Does anyone make a aftermarket cold air intake for the van?

2. I pulled the cover in the cab, then the heat shield.......And to my surprize their was a EBPV. I was under the inpression that the vans did not have a EBPV? Was it only the 99 and up they deleted the EBPV?

3. I checked the door sticker and it shows a trans code of E. This is the E40D........I was under the impression that the E-450 and E-550 came with a more HD transmission. Is this E40D a beefed up version? Or is it the same one you find in the E-150/250/350?

Thats a good start......any help would be great.

Re: E-450 general questions......

Agree with 2002 E350, I have '97 and the I found the drone irritating si I out it back on, but that's just me.

I don't think anyone makes an aftermarket Intake. Do a search on this site and see what you find.

Good Luck.

Re: E-450 general questions......

I have stated this numerous times.....the "resonator " is a POS ..who ever retains it is smoking really good green....... or is WAY too stupid to know the difference.....As soon as I realized I had to remove it to change my fuel filter , I replaced it with 2 Inch ABS piupe... You can also use PVC.... As far as the " Drone " discussion goes ..Turn up the sterio.....

Re: E-450 general questions......

As far as i know the vans between 99-03 had no wastegate. I just installed a van set up on my obs off a 2001 f450. The vans seem to be half way between a SD and Obs turbo set up.
