Re: 7.3 IDI Straight Pipe sound

A turbo'd engine will respond better to a fuel adjustment than the N/A IDI's will. The IDI's aren't going to make the big power, but will drive and tow respectably with a good setup on them and they get decent mileage.

TAG II, Exhaust Air Guide, K&N FIPK, Hood insulation delete, foil delete, SX and A1000 pumps, door dinger delete, COMPOUND trans coolers and a Banks Stinger+++ with the Banks TransCommand and Chrome curb Feelers.

248.9HP 4ft/lbs @ 3,400 RPM (don't forget to divide by 1,002 and carry the 5).

Nothing worse than a good idea that doesn't work.

Re: 7.3 IDI Straight Pipe sound

our old 91 model idi was completly stock, but would pull our backhoes at 60-70 mph. it just took quite a bit longer than our other trucks, but very dependable. leaked oil like a son of a gun, and towards the end of us owning it, the glow plugs were out. over 260k miles of hard towing not bad in my opinion. id own another one and you cant beat the OBS with the "titty cooler" side windows!!!

You might have a valve cover gasket leak, you can get new gaskets for about $14 from autozone. I have pics & can give you a few pointers if you decide to replace em. Took me a few hours in my driveway just taking my time.

As far as the pump goes I'd leave it alone. It can be a pain to get to & is more of a two people job. If I knew then what I know now I would have left mine alone. I have to back it off, smokes towards the top end & it don't clear up. Just wastes fuel & EGTs poke up in a hurry, be diffrent if it broke the tires free & could go sideways but it don't.

Re: 7.3 IDI Straight Pipe sound

Just fabbed up some dual 4" stacks on my buddy's '89. Custom made "clinkers" included. Sounds nasty
For a dually w/ 4/10's, exhaust and a modded air box, it pulls pretty good up the PA mountan roads w/ a trailer.
