Re: Starter upgrade for 1997 f-350 7.3

I got a refund. It was getting late and I didn't feel like putting another starter in. I also didn't want to have the same issue so I refunded it so I could do some research and see if anyone else has the problem

Sounds like you just got a dud reman starter. I remember when I was looking for a replacement starter that NAPA had a "new" Nippodenso starter without a core charge but it was about $250 and not a store stocked item. I didn't have the money or the time to wait so I went with the in stock reman starter option. Good luck finding a starter to use with the truck.

Anybody else have any ideas why I had issues? I'd really like to upgrade. I'd even go for the motorcraft but I can't drop $500 on a starter without knowing why the first one acted up. I don't want to damage the motorcraft and not be able to get my money back.

Bad starter. It happens...
Get a new one, make sure it's connected properly.
Not much to investigate on a starter malfunction.

Well. The local Napa stock the 2003 Motorcraft starters. They also stock a Nippodenso for my year...also a 2 bolt like the 2003. Interesting.

Just out of curiosity do the 2003 trucks that have 2 bolt starters still have 3 bolt holes?

Well. Not sure what it is with my truck but the 2003 motorcraft didn't work either. Guess I'll be sticking with the stock 3 bolt Mitsubishi style.

It just won't disengage. You start the truck...starts fine. Let go of the key and the starter stays engaged.

The factory starter has never had this issue.

Sounds like you got one with a faulty rebuild.
