In the past while researching my build I have read a couple times about people doing larger valves, particularly on the intake side (1.725" diameter vs. 1.680" stock). Just haven't decided on if I should increase size or not. Anyone that has any input on the subject I would love to hear it. I haven't ordered any valves yet nor had my machinist cut anything. If you are familiar with this, please chime in and also if you happen to know part numbers I would love to know those too. Ive had a hard time finding these larger valves that will work
Yea that was my first attempt. Talked to their head of the engine build department. He said they don't increase the valve size. Even in their competition heads it is still the stock size. All they do is a 3 angle valve job to the stock sized seats. Which is part of the reason that I almost just said screw it, but decided to go one step further and research just a bit more
yea...my 400cc/400% injectors with a S475 turbo and nitrous should be enough power. This is a complete build with every part I can possibly get. Carrillo rods, girdle, cemented block, studded everything, swamps gen 3 HPOP, SRP 1.1, stage 2 cam, ceramic coated pistons, fire rings, fluidampr....the list goes on.
But yea people wouldn't see much of a benefit till they start pushing the limits of what their current valve size can flow. I have my machinist working on it, once he figures it all out I should know a bit more.
Did you try talking to hypermax to see what they say about valves? Also off the subject I assume you have been running the SRP without issue but it seems a lot of them have been ticking time bombs. Dyno Proven is upgrading the SRP pumps to a HB SR. for a very affordable price. I just have read a few posts of guys who had a SRP implode and destroy expensive injectors.
Yea I ran the SRP 1.1 for a bit without any issues but I probably only ran it for around 5k miles though. I know something was changed when they went to the 1.1 version rather than the original SRP, I'm just not sure what. I'm adding the swamps Gen 3 HPOP and honestly won't have any need for the SRP but I don't have a stock pump to put in there. Do you know how it was ruining injectors? Only thing I can think of is if they are actually releasing debris and it is clogging or severely scarring the plunger or cylinder. I will do a bit more reading on that and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the heads up
No I haven't contacted hypermax at all on the valve options. My machinist sounded quite confident that he can find a suitable valve upgrade I was just hoping to make it easy on him and find a part number, seems nothing is "easy" when doing a complete build lol
I dont think the valve is the limiting factor in these heads. Swamps cnc ported heads are a good deal.
If a spring in the hpop breaks the steel will machine the brass block sending debris into the hpo system.
There is no info out to show the hb is any better then an srp.
I dont imagine there are a lot of hpop spring suppliers to choose from
The HB SR is new so yes it's not been documented to fix the problems yet. It has been slowly introducted over a year late as it was said to do some extreme testing and revision. Sounds like Dyno Proven was trying thier best to make sure if was not another Stealth failure. I hope it is a good pump time will tell. I only have a few miles on mine as of yet.
I may look around I know I had seen a couple around. I think the rear end cap blowing out has happened to a few. For one Stealth as far as I have read it out of business or trying to restructure. If the SRP had been a great pump they would still be in business.
Here is one video.
Rear cover leak is hardly a failed pump. Any stocker can leak from that o ring, dieselorings.com sells a viton replacement.
Same with the rear cover getting pushed out, it happens to stock pumps.
Hey guys I'm still learning so gimme a break but rather than look into larger valves my question is how much have you guys seen done with cams? I know gearhead does a cam has anyone run it that can chime in?
Yea I have the gearhead stage 2 cam, just doing everything I can in regards to allowing the head to flow better. I haven't decided which way I am going yet with the larger valves but there are a couple different options I have. Hypermax actually makes a 1.8" valve as well as a 2" valve. The 2" requires some extensive modifications to make it fit so I am definitely not going that route but it is possible. My machinist is probably just going to cut some from blanks and also he has another guy advising to change the valve angle, he has had hundreds of hours on on flowbench as well as doing countless hours on top fuel heads so I have been considering what he recommends
Yea, they were a bit proud of them but a lot of it is because they dont mass produce them, in fact he said he hasn't had anyone ask about them and they only generally make them for their own performance trucks
