Re: HPOP change out

Theres a write up on here in the library.

Took me about 2 hrs to pull mine off, most of that time was spent waiting for the phone to load and running back and forth for tools.

Re: HPOP change out

I would put ford grey silicone on the gasket... Any gaskets making metal to metal contact at work, we always use ford grey, it doesnt leak, it works miracles, im not the type of mechanic to slap silicone on everything either

Re: HPOP change out

If I recall correctly, the factory gasket has the seal "traces" on it and is not metal-to-metal (strictly speaking). There should be no need for the sealant. Cheers!

Re: HPOP change out

You do not need RTV on the HPOP gasket. If you do put any on there, make sure it is a super thin film otherwise you could push it into the holes in the pump and create nightmares for yourself. A new gasket and proper torque is all you need.

As far as changing the pump goes, drain the fuel bowl and HPOP reservoir, pull the fuel bowl, disconnect the HPOP lines, remove cover to HPOP gear bolt on front cover, remove bolt for HPOP gear, unbolt HPOP pump and remove it. Put in a new IPR for peace of mind into new pump and reassemble in reverse order. Remember to torque HPOP bolt to 95 lb ft.

Re: HPOP change out

As long as the HPOP gasket rubber is not damaged, it's completely re-useable. And as said above, do not use any sealer. That stuff gets into the intake port, it can cause IPR issues.

Re: HPOP change out

I use one leg of a gear puller with a screwdriver through it to hook the HPOP pump sprocket when tightening up the bolt. My engine seems to like rotating at about 90 lbs (automatic trans).
