Hi Im new to the site and new to powerstrokes. I just bought a 1997 7.3 with 300k on it.
My water temp isn't working. I grounded the wire and it spiked to hot when I turned the key on. so I figured the guage is good and I needed a new sending unit. just replaced that and the guage still wont move. any ideas?
Is the sensor visible or behind something or you have to remove a pulley or what? I have not gone out to look for the sensor yet. Thanks for the reply. friskyjake
If the gauge pegged when you grounded the terminal you removed, then that's the right sensor. The other one would have turned on the ENGINE TEMP light in the diesel-only warning light area.
In the previous answers about the temp gauge I don,t know what the [in front of the engine block] sensor is reading [water or oil ] or whatever? Would someone explain or clarify a little more. Thanks Friskyjake
The EOT is on the HPOP reservoir. Both sensors in the block/heads are coolant temp sensors. One is a variable resistance sender that feeds the gauge. The other is a switch that feeds the ENGINE TEMP light in the diesel-only warning light panel.
