I see.well I went through the same thing with a powerstroke I had. Passenger side second to last cylinder.the GP was seized in the head. Took 5 hours, alot of cussing and a few brews to finally get it out. But it never snapped in half.

Re: New to me 1997 F350 7.3 4 door long bed 5 speed 4x4 - Let the buildup begin! HELP!!

Been doing some research on my next 7.3 upgrades for this truck
Looking at injectors, Superduty intercooler/turbo setup tuners and gauges. Plan to get all my ducks in a row. I will likely take this approach, if I am missing anything please fill me in! I am still new to all of this, but I have some $$$ ($3K) or so to spend its time to start collecting parts

My 7.3 has 202K miles, lots of white smoke at cold start (clears and runs very well, no loss of fluids now, everything working well aside from 1 stuck glow plug, dorman UVCH and old injectors)

Plan:
Injectors, hpop and tune from reputable dealer, been looking at DP this week
Possibly toss in gauges/tuner

truck already has 3" downpipe & recent 3" exhaust with cat (I have to do Colorado emissions yuck, yearly sniffer test and visual check of cat)

I plan to get exhaust manifolds, intercooler piping, 6.0 intercooler, riff raff boots, and used turbo from superduty 7.3
Purchase bellowed up pipes, deleted SD pedestal, SD turbo rebuild kit with billet wheel and whatever else needed to update my 7.3 to bellowed pipes, better (larger) SD turbo and + intercooler. I will also need motorcraft UVCH as I dislike my dorman setup very much. I have no problem going to the single plug in SD type harness, wiring in house.

I will have new injectors and tunes in hand at time of install
I know I need some sort of fuel upgrades, I am only going with stage 1 (160, possibly 180 single shot) injectors, goal is 350-380 hp what I really want is TORQUE
I would love to do fuel bowl delete, e fuel? however if budget allows, I can always upgrade this later and my stuff seems to be working well.
I live at 9000 and drive this 97 mostly around 5500-9,500# daily

Thoughts? Missing anything?
Thanks!

Re: New to me 1997 F350 7.3 4 door long bed 5 speed 4x4 - Let the buildup begin! HELP!!

okay so a bit more research today
Hpop upgrade and e fuel upgrades can wait, with only planning stage I injectors and having good working 1997 fuel and oil system I should be in good shape. this is good because I am on a budget

I have been reading about this $0.50 140V IDM resistor mod

Worth it for my old 1997 100V IDM or not?
Well within my skill set and cheap, but is it needed with my planned mods?

Thanks

I just seen you post over in the baby swamps thread. Nothing wrong with them and the free tunes are a plus.

I seen you wanted to go with a 1.0 housing on the sd turbo. I wouldnt do that since your a standard. It will make it pretty laggy. Also only need to change the drivers side manifild.

I also have a 4" cat from a dodge for sale if you want it.

01 f-250, Standard
Rev tech 4" lift, 37" military wrangler Mt tires
KC diy 66, Full force 160/100 and custom tunes from PHP
Banks intercooler and full 4" exhaust, Diy S&B intake
Diy quad feed, Hydra, Isspro boost, pyro, and fuel pressure
3/0 battery cables with military style terminals

Back at post #237 in this thread Chevyguy asked me:

Quick question but do the leds in the cluster still dim like normal?
I finally had a chance to check the other day... no my 194 led do not dim

They do not appear to dim its either on or off, however they did seem to have off/on and then bright...not really a dim
Its like as you turn the dial they are off, come on and then at the top brightness setting are just a smidge brighter
Instrument cluster being clean inside and with the led was a nice update for an old truck
My dash is near flawless, headliner is good, plastic trim all good, all glass is good.
seats, door cards and carpet need to GO hahaha

Are you going with the swamps tunes on the ts? I know I loved my baby swamps.

97 F350 cclb
Lots of go fast parts
Dark candy apple now- twas a 7 different color project truck
5spd swap with SBC

And a 98 Chevy k1500 dd - leveled and looks pretty but is slow as hell!!

OBS FOR LIFE!!!!

yes swamps tunes, their 340hp package for $1150 + $250 for the TS6 chip

The fact that I have 30 days to send my old injectors in is a huge plus, otherwise I would have to fork over another $1000 up front and that money can be used for the UVCH and other upgrades.

My problem is my stuck GP, should I just remove the head and get it out? = new headgasket and bolts, anything else?

Thanks for the offer on the 4" cat!!! I may just do that it would be nice to upgrade to a 4" system

I have read that! Should I just stick with the SD turbo then rebuilt with WW2? Skip the 1.0 housing?
I want to use SD parts so I can get intercooled and bellowed up pipes. I am no stranger to junk yards
It just figures the head I need to remove it pass side and the manifold I need to swap is drivers..... fun fun

Pull the head. Gasket and new bolts are under $150.
Just a 360* rebuild kit and billet wheel. I recommend a kc turbos wheel.
