This is my first time posting. I have been on here alot doing research and can't really find what I'm looking for. I bought a 1997 f250 7.3 5 speed about a year ago as a project more or less. It wasn't in perfect shape and needed a little work. But the motor was running strong and have the transmission didn't have any problems. I was told when I bought the truck that is would need a new CPS because the one he bought was a cheap after market one and had a check engine light on. So I order a ford oem one. Also I went ahead and replaced the injector harnesses under the valve covers. After replacing it . It was run fine sometimes then sometimes it would run and would have no pedal then check engine light would come on and the truck would run fine and I wouldn't have any problems as long as it was on. So put a new ICP sensor on and that fixed that problem. A few months ago the truck started kicking and misfiring. Rough rough idle and would die. And would start right back up and I could drive it a mile or 2 sometimes longer then it would do it again. After researching and looking everything I read said it was th e IRP sensor. I replaced it and the truck seemed to be running fine. Then it started kicking or misfirin and will blow some white smoke. Fuel pressure is around 40 psi. Truck has a 6 position tuner but I leave it on the stock setting. I checked all the glow plugs and relay thinking maybe it was just a cold cylinder not firing but it idles fine and it only does it under a load. Could this be the HPOP going bad or is it the ICP sensor because it's not a OEM one or is it something else.
First thing to do is to physically pull the chip and see if anything changes. Running with the chip in stock mode is not the same as pulling the chip. Cheers!
I have replaced the passenger side. And I have them for the drivers side just was in a hurry the day I was doing and didn't get to finish. Hopefully can get the drivers side taken care of tonight. Nothing was wrong with the passengersame side. But with all things it just haves to be one little thing wrong to mess it all up.
Just an update on the truck. Changed the drivers side harness and took it for a test drive. Was going good until about 5 minutes in it started messing up. Didn't seem as bad but was still doing it and got a little worse. Taking it easy on the way back to the house and it stopped messing up after the motor was warm. Didn't matter how I drove it after it was easy or getting on it. So my question now is... Could the injector Orings not be sealing like they should when the motor is cold and as it warms up be making a better seal ?
At that mileage I have done injector o-rings and glow plugs on many trucks. The o-rings are eaten up. At that miles the injectors are about gone as well. Check your fuel pressure as you Rev it and see if it drops lower then 40 psi you have been getting. I would like to see it around 50 to 60 psi. You can try the bb mod to see if you can get some more fuel pressure. When looking at you injector harness, make sure there is no burnt terminals. Hope this helps.
I was told when I bought the truck the injectors had been replaced but that was one of those things i was told had been done but not sure I believe it. the more I've looked into the more I feel that hey have replaced a few injectors but not all of them. Going to truck and get it hooked up to a computer again and test all the injectors and see if any are bad. I will order Orings and change them out as is what happens
Update: I have changed out the injector o-rings all reinstalled. Blow out the cylinders. Started the truck and the fuel pressure went from 65 psi to 75 to 80 psi. So I took the bb mod back off and was idling around 55 psi. Took it for a test drive. Still misfiring. Started heading back and I lost fuel pressure was running in 10 psi. Had all the stuff to change it over to electric fuel pump. After all of that sound like it was running great. Took it for another test drive start misfiring again and ended up dying and wouldn't start bad motoe was warm. Got it home let it set over night and thought I would try it and it fired right up. Looked in the HPOP oil Reservoir and it was full of oil. Could this be a sign of the HPOP going bad? I'm clue on what's wrong. Coolant is clean. Oil is new and at the right level. All the glow plugs work and so does the relay. I will stay this. Before I changed out all the Orings I was out test driving it. And I noticed it was really on misfiring when the motor was warming up. And was usually goin from 2nd to 3rd not hammering down on it just getting up to speed and then when at high way speeds. 55 to 60. Running about 2,000 rpms. I drove it long enough to get the motor up to temp and it was like it went away. Wasn't misfiring. Didn't matter how I drove it. Easy or really pouring on it.
