Oil pressure problem?

ok well ive finally finished up building the stroke and getting it to somewhat run. now my problem is when i crank it it cranks n cranks n maybe will fire up. and when it does sounds fine runs good but when it goes down to a idle the oil pressure drops dramatically n the needle bobs back and forth i have a modded terminator on there now. when i do crank it takes a lil for the icp pressure to build up to 500 and when it does it will fire. i believe that is bout it any info or help would greatly be appreciated it

Re: Oil pressure problem?

If it is a 2003 or 2004 6.0 the high pressure oil pump has a check ball in the side of it that has been know to blow out and cause this issue, what happens is when the ball falls out it drops oil pressure at idle and the gauge drops down when it's off idle the gauge works and this will also cause a hard start issue, good luck finding the check ball it is about the size of a marble and usually ends up in the oil pan

Re: Oil pressure problem?

Oops in that case theirs a check ball by the high pressure pump that can stick
That controls low pressure oil flow it's a 3/8 drive head to get it out, also their is a non serviceable check ball in the front cover

Re: Oil pressure problem?

If u take the front cover off the front of any international 7.3 liter turbo diesel
their is a check valve make into the cover the only way to get to the valve is to cut the cover open
