like you said maintenance is a huge factor...you might have to replace injectors between 125-200,00 miles which can be kinda pricey. take good enough care i'd say they surpass 600,000 no problem.

Re: how many miles will a 7.3 go

If I was looking to buy a another 7.3 I would prolly try to keep it under 250,000mi. If you maintain it and take care of it you will probably get 500,000 out of it easy. I work on a fleet of 7.3l vans and 2 of the trucks have over 700,000 miles on them.

Re: how many miles will a 7.3 go

In my area a 7.3 Super Duty with that many miles usually goes for around 12k... In reference to the last post.

Give the rest of the truck a thorough once over. Look for rust, cracks, anything at all out of the ordinary.

If there is a reputable shop you know works on 7.3's around you, find out what they'd charge for a buyers inspection. Usually a 150+ point inspection. If you'd be willing to pay it, see if the current owner would be ok with it being inspected. Then, based off the results, you can make a better decision.
